Matt Weldon,

We need a way to very specifically direct ReadyNAS users. Here's the e-mail chain regarding this:

ReadyNAS download page changes

Matthew,

I've learned that with our new 7.4.1 release of SB Software for ReadyNAS there is install information we need to ensure all our customers can see. I'd like to know if a change to our download page is possible.

Proposal:
* When a customer clicks on either of our ReadyNAS builds and clicks "Download" they are taken to a separate page
* This new page has installation details they need to know and follow. (I can provide text when needed.)
* This new page also has a second checkbox for "I've read the above" and a second "Download" button
* Checking the checkbox and clicking Download on this page continues to the normal download process we have now.

Is this, or something like this, doable? Let me know.

Thanks!
--Dan

Dan, please see http://stage.www.logitechsqueezebox.com

(related to bug https://bugs-archive.lyrion.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14785 I
just cc'd you on)

So in short, no that's not really possible. At least not on
LogitechSqueezebox.com

We could add some special messaging on LogitechSqueezebox.com to
ReadyNAS users and direct them to the instructions.

Is there a RightNow article with ReadyNAS instructions?

Matthew,

The main page we want users to view is :
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/SqueezeCenter_on_ReadyNAS

Keep in mind that just posting the link will not do our users any good as they will most likely skip over the link.

We NEED them to read the instructions.

How are we handling ReadyNAS on MySqueezebox.cmo currently? How should
we handle issues like this in the future?

Today we're giving generic installation instructions when the download
starts (CMS key "INSTALLATION-TIPS"). We could enhance this to return
platform specific instructions, eg. make this "INSTALLATION-TIPS-READYNAS"
etc. We already have localized content for Windows, OSX and some generic
Linux. Could use the wiki to start with readynas.
Comment 2 Matthew J. Martin 2009-10-21 09:46:32 UTC
Michael: OK, I can set that up very easily.

Matt Weldon, what are your thoughts on this? --

( from Dan Eans )

Matthew,

Currently ReadyNAS is invisible on mySB.com. It was pulled down when we found the recent issues. On 7.4.1 launch it will be visible again.

Given the change from bug 14785 (sending customers to mySB.com for downloads) can we instead redirect them to an extra page on mySB.com? That is-- if they select ReadyNAS they go to an extra page where we present critical installation information?

Longterm I'd actually like to do this for both ReadyNAS builds plus Linux builds. The critical one now is ReadyNAS though.

Dan, I can set up the appropriate content/copy in the CMS but Michael Herger would be the one to implement on MySB.com. Matt Weldon will need to provide some basic design insight on how we should implement this.
Comment 4 Dan Evans 2009-10-21 10:16:42 UTC
In software meeting today it was decided this will take place in 2 stages:

Stage 1: I will provide updated text for ReadyNAS installation. Matthew will take that and update text in CMS for ReadyNAS installation. Michael will make small change to mySB.com that detects which build you're downloading and present _only_ the install text for that build.

Stage 1 will be completed today, 10/21.

Stage 2: Matt Weldon will provide feedback on how we can design and implement an intermediary page to take ReadyNAS users to that explains critical install details. From there the user can continue on to the actual download.

  Stage 2 completion TBD.

simple change to get some readynas specific install information on the download page

This is my proposed q'n'd change to get some more information to ReadyNAS users. It would require a 'INSTALLATION-TIPS-READYNAS' CMS block (or something else) to be displayed instead of the more generice 'INSTALLATION-TIPS' on the left hand side of the download page.

Andy - would this be fine with you?
Comment 6 Andy Grundman 2009-10-21 10:30:54 UTC
Sure, fine with me.

Michael, sorry I didn't see your email before I implemented:

    http://cms.mysqueezebox.com/backend_dev.php/content/get/?as=text&position=INSTALLATION-INSTRUCTIONS

    titles are:

    "Installing Squeezebox Server on Windows"

"Installing Squeezebox Server on Mac OS X"

"Installing Squeezebox Server on Linux, Solairs & BSD"

    "Installing Squeezebox Server on ReadyNAS"

    So, for ReadyNAS:

Let's leave all alone now EXCEPT ReadyNAS -- does that make sense? The others are not yet localized.

Description: use diffent "Install tips" block for readynas

The text I included in comment 7 was not added on the page. Is this process done already or is it still in progress?

http://cms.mysqueezebox.com/backend_dev.php/content/get/?as=text&position=INSTALLATION-INSTRUCTIONS&title=Installing%20Squeezebox%20Server%20on%20ReadyNAS

That content is present in the CMS (looks like it was left out last week).

We should re-target / clarify this bug for the future enhancements Dan mentions (e.g. the interstitial page).
