Description Till 2009-10-18 15:15:03 UTC
The part where the library actually is being cleared takes forever.

If I stop the server, delete the cache folder or even just the ibdata1 file, and restart the server, the initial scan starts at once (even though there are some errors in the log, but who cares).

Doing it the way it is designed (hitting the clear and rescan library button), the clearing takes well up to an hour with a big library. And the subsequent initial scan is not even counted in time-wise.

The routine should stop the server, delete the library, and restart the server. With an appropriate flag set somewhere, you could even avoid error messages in the log.

What's your platform, collection size etc.?

One step you're working around is clearing the local cache of artwork files. Doing so might lead to incorrect covers being displayed.

Platform: see above. Size: 70.000+ songs.

Artwork files can be deleted in the filesystem as well, it's a matter of seconds.

Is your library;
1) local (On the same disk as SBS)
2) remote (on a USB drive attached to the same system)
3) network (on another system on the same network, or a NAS drive on the network?

What version of Squeezebox Server are you running 7.3.3 or 7.4.0 or 7.4.1?

What Anti-Virus software are you running? Manufacture, brand, version number

Does Task Manager show any hanging tasks when doing a Clear and Rescan?

It's USB 2 attached.

7.4.1, but that had been this way ever since 7.3 and possibly earlier.

> What Anti-Virus software are you running? Manufacture, brand, version number

Symantec Antivirus 10.1.5.5000

Andy: your thoughts on this?

Till: Can you get us a Scanner log file and attach it to this bug?

Turn Scanner log on, run the scan again, then attach the log file to this bug when it's done.

This won't be an issue anymore in 7.6 because the artwork cache is in a single file.

Was able to clear the 'big l;ibrary' (15k songs) quickly on the 're-scan'
