Bugzilla – Bug 148
system preferences gets bolloxed when upgrading
Last modified: 2011-03-16 04:14:04 UTC
Something to watch out for - not necessarily something we need ot fix, but we should get David's opinion... do we need to delete the com.apple.preferencepanes.cache file in order to install relibably? This problem was found when upgrading a roughly 6 month old installation (sorry don't know what version it was - I deleted it before I realized there was a real problem). First, there were two copies of SLIMP3 Server (I do know it was all caps like that, so not an ancient version). After running the Slim Server 5.0.1 installer, no new icon appeared in System Preferences. Deleted ~/Library/SystemPreferences/* and tried reinstalling Still two SLIMP3 Sever icons, no SlimServer icon Verified nothing in /Library/SystemPreferences Tried relaunching system preferences, then tried re-logging-in, then tried rebooting Then tried grep -r SLIMP3 ~ and found ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.preferencepanes.cache deleted that and everything works.
Doesn't appear to be an issue anymore.
