Description chrismuller@gmx.net 2009-10-13 05:52:42 UTC
I have now already several times witnessed the following (rather strange) phenomenon with my Squeezebox Boom:

After some time (usually a few days or even weeks of continuous operation) the "repeat key feature" of the small (original Squeezebox Boom) infrared remote does not work any more, i.e. if I press and hold a button (e.g. the volume up button) the device only receives a single button press, but no continuous press.

If I then use the Squeezebox 3 remote the continuous button press features still works. I take it that the two remotes use a different style of transmitting press and holds, see

http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/RemoteIRCodes#What_happens_if_you_press_and_hold_a_key.3F

So it seems that the Squeezebox Boom firmware after some time stops processing the "repeat header" properly.

Otherwise, the device works flawlessly. The problem persists whether the Boom is connected to a SqueezeCenter or not.

So far the only solution I found to restore the "repeat header" functionality is to power cycle the box, after which everything is fine again, until the problem occurs again after some days (or weeks).

Re: BOOM IR remote repeat not working

I have experienced the same problem. Some additional observations:

1) I have an SB3 and two Booms. The Boom IR remote repeat key function functions normally when controlling the SB3.

2) Only one of my two Booms has ever been affected by this bug.

3) Turning the faulty Boom on and off at the mains seems to restore normal response to press/holding buttons on the Boom remote.

3) The problem has occurred since migrating to SBS 7.4.1 and Boom firmware 50.

4) The affected Boom is about 3 months old, the unaffected Boom is at least a year older.
