Bugzilla – Bug 14712
Scanner doesn't start if no music folder is defined, but iTunes or other importer only
Last modified: 2011-09-25 07:30:41 UTC
Installed clean squeezecenter 7.4.0 on readyNAS, finished the setting steps, after that install 'itunes' in plugin page. In 'Basic Settings', left the 'Music Folder' and 'Playlists Folder' empty. In 'Itunes', enabled 'Use Itunes', point the 'iTunes Music Library.xml Location' and 'iTunes Music Folder' to the correct location. Scanner cannot start at all. Even after clicking "Rescan" in 'Basic Settings' menu. At 'Information' menu, it stated that no library location for music source. To get around it, in 'Basic Settings', i placed the correct path for 'Music Folder', and clicked rescan, now scanner started to scan, but after finished scanning, there's double entries for all my songs.
could you please set logging for the scanner settings group to debug and try again with the file path empty?
Also - did you restart SBS sinc you've set it up? I had trouble getting it to scan, but it did work fine once I restarted SBS.
(In reply to comment #1) > could you please set logging for the scanner settings group to debug and try > again with the file path empty? If the file path is empty, even though i enabled logging for scanner, it doesn't get started. (The log doesn't appear in the information tab too). Yes, tried restarting the SBS and even the readyNAS, the scan can't start too.
please make sure iTunes is enabled and the correct file paths are defined. Enable debugging for iTunes and try again. Anything iTunes related in server.log or scanner.log? This is working fine for me (ReadyNAS, OSX). QA - can you reproduce the issue?
Created attachment 6146 [details] Server Log Log after removed the path in Music Folder, and select Clear library and Rescan.
Created attachment 6147 [details] Information Tab

OK, debugging is set for iTunes. itunes is enabled, correct file paths defined. All i need is just to remove the path in "Music Folder", and then in the 'information' tab, it will display "Library Statistics No music library configured" Attached a screenshot of the information tab, as well as attached the server.log
This appears to work for me with 7.4.1 on windows and mac based systems. Michael: is there anything in the log that helps diagnose the issue?

Please also upload the > scanner.log i re-checked my server log again, seems the date will always be 9-10(even after i restart the service). Anyway, i re-installed 7.4.1 clean again. After removing the Music Folder path, the same problem happens again. This time however, it works after i restarted SBS (which didn't the last time i tried). Any idea why it doesn't work the first time? and why when i removed the music folder, it disabled the scanning without check if itunes are enabled? Scanner log (after deleting music folder and restart SBS): [09-10-19 00:28:27.1836] main::main (184) Starting Squeezebox Server scanner (v7.4.1, r28795, Thu Oct 8 04:03:11 PDT 2009) perl 5.008008 [09-10-19 00:28:45.0951] Slim::Music::Import::runImporter (562) Starting Slim::Plugin::iTunes::Importer scan

I have an idea, but will have to verify it as it didn't apply to my tests on the Mac. But I'm glad you got it working. > Scanner log (after deleting music folder and restart SBS): > [09-10-19 00:28:27.1836] main::main (184) Starting Squeezebox Server Better date now ;-)
moving current p2 bugs to p3 to make room for moving p1.5 bugs to p2
Administrative move of 7.5 bugs. All P2, P3, P4 being downgraded one level. Will then split P1s.
Moving P3 and lower bugs to next release target
Still not fixed yet in version 7.6.1. Is there any plan to fix this once and for all?
