Description Kevin Pearsall 2005-04-27 13:18:22 UTC
would be nice to have a couple of options for this...

- start playing on reconnect [yes/no]
- start playing what on reconnect [select a playlist/persistent
playlist/whatever else you can think of]

As with SlimServer, when players reconnect they should have the same now playing
playlist as when they last connected. And I believe the play mode is preserved
as well.

But I'm not sure what you mean by reconnect. Do you mean the occasional network
dropping out and reconnecting? Or do you mean the user connects to another
server, then sometime later returns to SN?

well, regardless of the nature of the disconnect, it would be nice to have a
feature where people could set their desired playing mode on reconnect...
Comment 3 Dave Cohen 2005-05-02 11:09:20 UTC
Having thought about this a little bit, I think the behavior for both slimserver
and squeezenetwork should be the same. Shouldn't it?

Also, we must assume that from time to time players will disconnect and
reconnect shortly afterwards, just because the network goes out. Or because we
bring down a SqueezeNetwork server for maintenance, say, and the player
automatically connects to another one, or reconnects later. During these
automatic reconnects, trying to do something clever like play a given playlist
could leads to confusing and annoying behavior. Suppose it happens in the
middle of the night, and a player that was off suddenly starts playing music.
Or it switches playlists to something much louder than was last played, and the
volume is too high. I'm just saying that if we do this, we should distinguish
between the automatic reconnects and the manual ones.
