Description Ben Klaas 2009-09-29 08:50:46 UTC
the 7.4.0 release has buried InfoBrowser away because the Extras menu does not show up on the home menu by default (can be enabled by checking Settings->Home Menu->Extras). Further, InfoBrowser has a few recurring issues that need sorting out, and it would be good to figure out how we really want to deliver this function, via SP applet or SN "app".
Comment 1 Weldon Matt 2009-10-04 18:33:07 UTC
need to discuss infobrowser vs. newsticker etc.
Comment 2 Adrian Smith 2009-10-05 13:59:51 UTC
In this discussion I think its important to recognise the infobrowser is not just an RSS reader, its a framework to display information feeds on the player. Through the use of perl parsers packaged as plugins its possible to add capabilites such as reading the forum pages or other sources of info such as web pages. Hence please don't treat this as a need to align two rss readers!
Comment 3 aidane 2009-10-07 11:29:18 UTC
In the interim, is there any process to amend/add/correct RSS feeds?
Anticipated fix date?
Comment 4 Adrian Smith 2009-10-11 13:16:57 UTC
Aidane,

Which RSS feeds are wrong? You should be able to edit both the feeds used by InfoBrower and RSS screensaver via the web interface.

The user interface is different for the two though:
- InfoBrowser allows you to click on the feeds from the front menu page by drilling down the tree view in the left plane. InfoBrowser is under Extras and the pencil icon allows you to edit a feed.
- RSS News allows you to edit the feeds via the Setting, Advanced, RSS News Ticker

Thank you for the reply. Sorry for the lengthy detail provided below.
I was trying to access InfoBrowser from MySqueezebox rather than the server interface. I rarely use the web interface, preferring MySqueezebox since I generally listen to internet radio.
See transcript below following my call to support on 9/28. InfoBrowser was available through the path below in MySqueezebox for about 1 day and then removed.

Hello Mr. Dane,

Today you called us at Logitech customer support asking about some of the changes that took place during our SqueezeNetwork upgrade. Specifically you wanted to know how to find your info browser again.

Following is the menu path that will take you there.

App Gallery > Utilities > News Ticker

So at the top of your SqueezeNetwork page, select the "App Gallery" option.

From here, use the dropdown menu to find "Utilities" and click on that option.

You will see the RSS News Ticker in this list.

We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you. Hopefully this will get you back up and running again without any further issue.

If you are experiencing any further problems, or you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact us, either by calling customer care, or by replying to this email.

Thank you for choosing Logitech!

Regards,

Ella Silver

missing RSS News Ticker app in Utilities

Here the screenshot that shows the missing RSS News Ticker app.

Does support not understand how cool it is to put RSS feeds on your squeezebox???

Hopeless...
Comment 9 Bart Burkhardt 2009-11-12 15:53:46 UTC
I think I'm going to burn a few candles for the loss of RSS functionality.

Meanwhile doing that I hope that Logitech support finds a way to enable it again, but hurry up, the candles are burning...

Hello SqueezeBox Team!

Can you provide some news please?

Thanks.
Comment 11 David Rothbaum 2009-11-17 01:17:55 UTC
I too am quite frustrated that the RSS feed under squeezenetwork can no longer be modified in mysqueezebox. It points to some serious flaws in Logitech's new product introduction process for mysqueezebox when basic functions cease to exist.
At least a planned fix date must be provided.

sincerely,

David R.
Comment 12 Nemo 2009-11-17 05:06:42 UTC
I agree with David,

Logitech has failed the migration from squeezenetwork to mysqueezebox.

As a test, I've visited the old link for rss feeds management :
http://www.squeezenetwork.com/settings/rss

It seems to be always accessible but the code is broken (js error).

I hope the problem will be corrected soon and the old page deleted ;-)

Another point is not clear about the migration. When you connect your sboxes to a squeezeserver then shutdown the PC, the sboxes fail to connect to mysqueezebox again. You have to change your password on mysqueezebox to allow the connection.

The Logitech support gave me no support about the problem and I've found the workaround by myself :-(

Anyway I hope it could help...

Best regards from France,
Nemo

Nothing new under the sun?

Can some one provide news bout this bug?

Thanks.
Comment 16 asenath 2010-05-04 05:17:46 UTC
I would appreciate it if this bug could be fixed as well, it's a shame that we can't make any use of the RSS ticker other than view the standard ones given at http://www.squeezenetwork.com/settings/rss
Comment 17 Didier L. 2010-05-05 03:58:14 UTC
Hi Squeezebox team!

If the correction of this bug is a not a priority for you, maybe we can help you.
Just say how?
Can you provide source code, or API or I don't know what to solve this issue.

Thanks.
Comment 18 Carel 2010-05-07 13:34:46 UTC
Dear Squeezebox team,

I agree with the others in this thread that it should be possible to modify your RSS feeds via Mysqueezebox.com.

Maybe the team could let us know a planned date for a solution to this bug.

Thank you very much in advance.

Sincerely,

Carel (the Netherlands)

I agree with the other! Please, correct this bug!
I need to have the possibility to cancel the eventual "resident" RSS News feed and add personal one. I'm using my Squeezeboom in my country (Italy) and I don't understand why I have to turn on my Mac in order to have the possibility to enter di squeezebox server and from there - at last - to see the rss-feed of my preferred italian newspaper. It's seems stupid to not have the same possibility with the computer turned off and working with the "normal" mysqueezebox.com choiche.

Moreover: I see that in the browser window I can add the RSS-News Feed in the section EXTRA, under BROWSER NEWS, but after this in the EXTRA Section of my Squeezeboom I see the INPUT choice only!
Comment 21 Didier L. 2010-07-17 07:47:27 UTC
Dear Squeezbox team,

Can you provide news about this bug correction?
Can you assign this bug and give a delivery date?

Thank you for your answer.

Hello! I, too, would like to see this issue with RSS Feed customization addressed on http://www.mysqueezebox.com. Thanks!
Comment 23 Nico 2010-10-17 23:27:39 UTC
Hi,

I also find this bug extremely annoying.
The great thing about mysqueezebox is to remove the need for a computer. Great idea.
I would love to have my squeezebox display RSS feeds of my choice (weather forecast of my area). I'm really fed up with Yahoo! News, New York Times, CNET and Slashdot feeds.

I managed to delete some feeds when looking at the source code for:
http://www.squeezenetwork.com/settings/rss

But no luck in adding them.

I really think this is a simple fix.
If you don't have resources to fix it, can you at least send us documentation for the services under
http://www.squeezenetwork.com/settings/rss
(especially add)
Comment 24 mgenzel 2010-10-28 11:27:55 UTC
Please bring the edit/delete functionality of RSS feeds back! I used to have RSS feeds running on the Squeezebox while it is turned off, but some of them have their address changed now. Why did you guys remove this functionality?
Comment 25 golgote 2011-01-05 00:20:21 UTC
Now, can you please fix this page :
http://www.mysqueezebox.com/settings/rss

We have asked for this fix for 2 years now, are you completely stupid that you don't understand your customers need this page ?

Fucking idiots, I paid for your product, I deserve it to work correctly.
Comment 26 Hans-Peter Utikal 2011-01-06 05:02:03 UTC
I am very sad about this situation and consider it as disdaining of the customers. The problem should not be so difficult to solve. The only aim of Logitech seems to sell as many devices (e.g. squeezeboxes) as possible. And then people stand helplessly in the desert. It would be more intelligent and consequently work as sale promotion, if enthusiastic users praised the efforts of the company to keep the customers satisfied and to ameliorate this principally wonderful product SQUEEZEBOX.
Strange times we live in. It's a great pity. it's a shame !!!

Hi All!

I will try to contact directly a member of the team to have an answer.

If not, what do you think about a petition of the web?
It can be a good advertise for Logitech ;+)

Thanks for your reply.

I've been hacking around with this and found out how to manually change the RSS feeds and fortunately it's not too tricky (and better than nothing!).

Instructions:

Log in to mysqueezebox.com

Adding a New Feed
=================
Type this into your address bar:
http://www.mysqueezebox.com/settings/rss/add?url=<your-chosen-rss-feed>

e.g.
http://www.mysqueezebox.com/settings/rss/add?url=http://forums.slimdevices.com/external.php?type=rss2&forumids=10

If successful you will then get a prompt as to what to do with the response, e.g. save the JSON as a file - you can just cancel this and the feed should still be added to your list. If the feed URL is inaccessible it will display an error. By default the title for the feed is whatever the RSS feed itself supplies.

Deleting an Existing Feed
=========================
Go to http://www.mysqueezebox.com/settings/rss and look at the page source (e.g. View->Page Source). Each of your feeds will have an ID number within the <li> HTML - use that number and put it in this URL:
http://www.mysqueezebox.com/settings/rss/delete/<your-id-here>
e.g.
http://www.mysqueezebox.com/settings/rss/delete/4292387

The page will refresh and your selected feed should have gone.

Edit
====
I haven't quite managed to get this working. To edit an existing feed title you can do this:
http://www.mysqueezebox.com/settings/rss/delete/<your-id-here>
e.g.
http://www.mysqueezebox.com/settings/rss/edit/3152718
You'll get a form with title and URL, but the Save button doesn't work as the page is only a fragment of HTML.

You can simply add/delete instead, though you can't control the order, just add to the end of the list.

Note
====
The feeds have to be publicly available on the internet - the SB device seems to get its data via MSB so something on your private network cannot be made visible (even if you fiddle hostnames etc).

Hi Squeezebox team!

Please assign this bug! This bug exists now for 2 years!
We need to update our RSS feed. Some people have moved since they bougth the SB: it will be good to update the city weather feeds..

Everybody will be happy to update (add/modify/delete) RSS feeds event with a former GUI.

Thanks in advance...

My current feeds and setup for RSS News Ticker works (Squeezebox 3), but I can't find a way to change my feeds. I'm told this is the bug to vote on for fixing this, though it is not obvious from description of the bug?
"RSS News Ticker" is the best non-music feature of any Squeezebox. Please don't let it die...
Comment 34 Simon300 2011-11-14 10:00:49 UTC
I agree that the RSS reader is very useful - e.g. I use mine to see the status of my central heating system (and control it in a basic way) from my bedside radio!
