Description James Gardner 2004-01-14 11:01:10 UTC
Is there a tag for marking a song as explicit? I've got a two year old who I
don't want listening to Frank Zappa or The Streets while I've got a full library
shuffle going. I know I can put a keyword in the comments field and then use a
smart playlist in iTunes to filter them out, but is there a more formal way of
doing things? It would be good if this feature could extend to all users, not
just those using iTunes. Maybe using the TXXX tag in the ID3 spec?

know of any taggers to set that tag?
how would you like to mark them otherwise?
Maybe a specific path would be easiest if tagging isnt convenient.
ie..if you have a folder named "slimserver-xxx", then any music in that folder
woudl be handled differently. Maybe in combination with a server setting to
select clients that can access and the feature req from bug43 which blocks
server settings access. This way, clients would be stuck with certain access
and be unable to change the server settings to gain more access.

Moving bugs that won't be immediately fixed in 6.1 release. Please review and update if this is an error
or if this bug has already been fixed. Thanks.

I understand not having a standard tag avaialble that we can use (why not is a
good question as a "rating" or "explicit" tag seems a very good idea given
those big warning labels we see on CDs these days). As an alternative, couldn't
a special playlist be used as the source for explicit songs? Now that we have
a database engine, the scan could look to this playlist during a library build
and mark a field for matched tracks. This would effectively create a "virutal"
tag that could be used for a plugin or standard feature.

I have exactly the same need for this feature as I also have a two year old. Recently she has enjoyed listening to albums (Mumford and Sons and Ben Folds Five spring to mind) where the majority of the content is fine, but just one song is explicit. Ideally for me I should be able to add something to the tag information for an explicit song. There would then be a feature or plugin for squeezeserver that would allow me to exclude (filter) or include songs with that particular tag. That way I could still play such music for my daughter (and in future allow her to choose her own) without having to dive for the remote at high speed! For this to be effective I think it has to allow the user to select specific songs and not just albums only. This might be harder work for the user to set up, but does allow each individual to choose what they feel is appropriate/inappropriate.

This for me is the most important feature missing from Squeezeserver. Importantly it needs to be easy to use once set up - daughter present I click the button, daughter not present, I can unclick it. I would be prepared to spend the time properly tagging to make sure this worked well.

I tag things with 'Explicit' as one of the Genre's, and use a Dynamic Playlist (from Erlands Indispensable Plugins) to exclude things with that Genre set for work-playing.

Also look at Erland's CustomSkip which would do something similar.

Just wanted to say thanks. I have just installed and tested Erland's CustomSkip and it does the trick. Much appreciated.
