Bugzilla – Bug 14262
Updating jive on test.sn.com with mp firmware fails to recconect back to network
Last modified: 2010-02-08 09:56:59 UTC
To reproduce start with a duet with mp firmware. I used 23 and 2448. Also be sure to delete the players from squeezenetwork and do not have a local server on the network just to be sure it does not interfere with the test. We are also using a network in QA that redirects www.squeezenetwork.com to test.squeezenetwork.com but I am not sure if that is required at the moment. 1 Walk through normal setup connecting duet to the network. 2 Once connected notice that ray and jive receive a firmware update 3 Notice that once jive reboots with the new firmware it fails to connect to the network. The odd thing at this point is that if you navigate on the jive and select the same network it was connected to before the update it will connect without asking for network information. The other odd thing is that jive will now be in sort of a limbo state on test.squeezenetwork.com since it bypassed registration and still be on the support@slimdevices.com account. This may not be specific to test.squeezenetwork.com but may also be an issue with SqueezeboxServer as well but I have not tested that yet.
I was able to reproduce this exact case with r6038 and 62.
I wanted to add that if I factory rest both the ray and jive and try again with the new firmware I am able to connect successfully.
This may not be limited to only mp firmware but also with 62 and 6038 that is the current firmware with 7.3.3. Once duet is connected to the network and you are presented with the Music Source selecting SqueezeNetwork results in ray connecting to sn but jive will present a pin screen for a few moments and then a connecting to SqueezeNetwork screen will show for a while and then will result in a Problem Connecting screen with the options Try again or Go back. The jive does not attempt to update firmware during this time. If one selects Try again the process repeats itself.
This also happens with 65 and 6038 so not having ray update during the setup does not appear to change the issue.
Ok, the following test was successful. SBR fw 65 already on test.sn.com and SBC factory reset with 6038, manually edited NetworkThread.lua to point to test.sn.com, rebooted to make the change effective, and went through setup, got the upgrade, upgraded, connected to test.sn.com, chose SBR, chose 'Continue' and everything looks ok.
Similar test, this time setting up 7.3 SBC and SBR and it also worked fine. - SBR - fw 65 - factory reset - SBC - r6038 - factory reset - Manually edited NetworkThread.lua to point to test.sn.com - Manually edited SetupSqueezeboxApplet.lua to send SBR to test.sn.com - Rebooted SBC to make changes apply - Selected language - Selected wireless network - Entered wireless passphrase - SBC connected - Selected SBR to setup - SBR setup until LED blue - SBC looks for music sources and offers SN - Select SN as music source - SBR connects to test.sn.com (LED white) - SBC offers to update to 7.4 - Start update on SBC - When update has finished and SBC has rebooted a spinny appears quickly - Then offers to either Register or Continue - Select Continue - Setup done and working fine
I compared the settings files in /etc/squeezeplay/userpath/settings and they are identical in both cases either when setting up SBC under 7.4 or when SBC is updated from 7.3 to 7.4. There is one file (SetupNetworking.lua) missing when going the upgrade path, but that is not a big issue as it will be written as soon as the user selects a different network.
I've double checked this and it works for me as Felix describes. Steven, we need to discuss this and get logs.
Steven, also what firmware did you upgrade to?
I upgraded from r6038 to r7745 (offered by test.sn.com).
