Bugzilla – Bug 13986
Facebook strings have improper grammar
Last modified: 2009-10-05 16:43:08 UTC
When user shares song on FBook, text should read: "<name> just shared music from a Squeezebox" ("from their squeezebox" doesn't work).
Agreed with this. For 8.0 we should investigate gender-specific strings (I'm hoping/assuming we can grab gender from the user's facebook profile?) if we can grab gender, appropriate string(s) would be: "<name> just shared music from his Squeezebox" "<name> just shared music from her Squeezebox" if we can't grab gender, correct string is: "<name> just shared music from a Squeezebox"
We could do gender, the only thing I worry about is translation of this. %s just shared music from %s Squeezebox We'd have to define "his" and "her" as strings to fit in the second %s, and not sure this would be possible in every language. Michael, your thoughts?
We would very likely need separate strings per gender. Finnish and probably others too need to change the ending of Squeezebox etc.
That said it wouldn't cost that much more as most languages are not that complicated.

Let's call it impractical as it adds complications to future releases, increases translation costs and doesn't significantly improve the user experience. (afterall, nothing is truly "too hard" for this team!!)
This bug has been fixed in the latest release of MySqueezebox.com (formally known as SqueezeNetwork)! If you are still experiencing this problem, feel free to reopen the bug with your new comments and we'll have another look.
