Description Erland Isaksson 2009-09-11 09:48:51 UTC
Currently the App Gallery clutters the home menu and it's a menu which you probably enter a few times in the beginning and then never again. What makes it worse is that it pushes "Favorites" out of the screen on the Controller so I always needs to scroll to see the "Favorites" menu item.

It is possible to complete remove it by editing the home menu under Settings but the problem with that is that then it can't be shown anywhere since it can't be enabled as a sub menu under My Apps or under Settings.

Possible solutions:
1. Move App Gallery to a sub menu under "My Apps"
2. Make it possible to enable "App Gallery" under "My Apps" or under "Settings", this way I can disable it on the home menu and still have access to it.

Of these two options, placing App Gallery under My Apps is far easier. Within Settings is not an option.

Why is App Gallery not an option for going under Settings? Because it's hard, or because it's not seen to be related to Settings? Just interested.
Comment 3 Andy Grundman 2009-09-11 12:06:24 UTC
Mostly because it's harder and more work.

This is not a 7.4 P1.

It should not go under My Apps. It should not go under Settings. It is By Design, and definitely not "broken."

Pushing this out to 8.0 target for now.

The solution here isn't to do something different/special for App Gallery menu customization. Instead we should look at ways to improve the Home Menu editing utility (or, perhaps make it a more general "all menu" editing utility) possibly including the ability to move items up/down the list, create new organizational structures (e.g., categories/"folders"), etc.

I'd love a better tool for configuring the Home Menu (or any menu).

It would be a bit naff however if you have to install an App onto Home Menu in one tool, and then use another tool to configure the order of the menu.

Since App Gallery is removable from the Home menu via Settings > Home Menu, I'd like to suggest that it would be in Logitech's interest (and that of their supposed partners) to make it reachable under some other menu. A lot of people are removing App Gallery from the Home menu as soon as they see it cluttering things up.
