Description Michael Herger 2009-09-07 00:12:00 UTC
Currently WHS requires users to uninstall SC before updating to a new build. This is due to MSI's restriction to update an application from a file with a different name the the previous' installer.

The solution to this might be renaming installers as we're moving them to the WHS' software folder during the update download. In this case the user shouldn't need to touch that file one single time. File names aren't important. Let's always rename them to the major version, eg. SqueezeboxServer-7.4.msi (without the build number).

This is for Windows Home Server only. Users downloading manually would still need to go through the uninstall/install cycle.

I'm sorry, applying new targeting guidelines

The upcoming WHS 2 ("Vail") will feature an all new add-on api and installer format. Let's see how this will handle our situation. As we'll have to rewrite the add-in I won't fix this for WHS1.

All WHS v1 add-ins I have behave like that.
