Bugzilla – Bug 13847
Alarm UI flow can be confusing as to what options are available
Last modified: 2009-09-15 13:57:04 UTC
Using Baby firmware r7403, I can only set hour of alarm, and not day of week(s).
That's not true actually. My guess, though, is there's some non-intuitive UI flow. After you set your alarm you can go back and edit several things, including which days you want it to ring. There's probably some improvements to be made here...let's leave this bug open and work through it. initial bug owner will be Weldon
Oh, there it is! The flow is indeed unintuitive. There should be a way of choosing the options once you set the time. Geez, there are so many options ... but that's probably another bug.
I disagree with this as a P1, but regardless-- changing summary to reflect actual bug just my 2 cents-- we need to make the "happy flow" dead simple. Most people just want to set an alarm without any advanced options. That is, "I want to get up at 7am". You set 7 am, and you are done. Things like day of week and custom playlists, etc., that's an "advanced" alarm feature. We want them available, but not put directly in the face of the happy flow alarm user.
I think this is just confusing to us because we know (and are used to) all the "power features" our alarm clocks have. Ben is exactly right: a user who first encounters our alarm clock (and doesn't know anything about what features it has) will want/expect to be able to create a new alarm, set the time, and be done with it. The current behavior is correct, and the defaults are also correct. The iphone does a great job with this by having the advanced features on the same screen as the time-setting widget. Problem is we really don't have the screen real estate (or resources) to do this in our system. Let's see what reviewers' reactions are to the new setup. I guess/hope they will like it. We may find out that we need to tweak our language a bit to make editing more obvious, but I think this is great for now.
