Bugzilla – Bug 1379
Slim Server music database - browse artist/album error
Last modified: 2008-09-15 14:37:04 UTC
I use iTunes as the main database for all my music. This has always worked fine. I noticed, while using a Slimbox, that certain artists/albums were now missing (previously they were present). I had set the new option of re-scanning the database at a set time on my server - so thought it could be this. I ran the slimserver web interface and found that only a 1/3 of my albums were present. I decided to run the "wipe cache" function. I waited a while and selected "browse artists" in the web interface - and the list that is normally shown as "A B C D E F ... X Y Z" now showed "A B S B A B P A B A T A ...". I have taken a screen shot that you can find at www.moyo.me.uk/squeezebug. Even when the scan was complete, the list was the same. When I checked the albums, only A to M were listed. I decided to re-boot the server PC. When this booted, Windows XP reported that there was an error with "slim.exe" and asked if I wanted to report this. I started the server, chedcked the settings with respect to iTunes (I have manually set the directories for the xml etc files) and all was correct. I again did a "wipe cache" and this time all was fine. I have not been able to repeat the problem so far. Perhaps the code for lisiting A to Z could be made more robust, so that if there is a corruption of some sort this could be reported, rather than lisiting random letters?
I believe parts of this are covered in at least one other bug, but I'll leave this as is for now. recategorising to slimserver as this is not a firmware bug. Please supply the server version that you are using, and the OS
The bug occured on: SlimServer Version: 6.0.1 - 2895 Running on Windows XP Professional Version 2002 (Service pack 2)
I don't know why only 1/3rd of your library showed up (did you shut down slim.exe in the middle of the initial scan?), but the DB corruption issues (including the whacky page header) after a wipe DB have been fixed in both the 6.0.x and 6.1 nightlies.
Please try the nightly and reopen the bug if it's still an issue.
There are 536 bugs in the database with targets of '---' that were fixed prior to new year 2006. I am setting them to targets of 6.2.1 to keep them from showing up in my queries.
