Description Sue Chastain 2009-08-29 08:20:17 UTC
First off, it irks me that the little status bar at the bottom is overlapping the bottom edge of the cover art on the Controller's now playing screen. It appears that some stuff at the top could be scrunched up enough that the cover doesn't have to go behind the lower bar, but if not, I'd even prefer smaller artwork than covering the bottom edge like it's doing now.

Secondly, if the cover image is more landscape than square, you get a gap at the top and bottom, which looks bad. It should align to the top instead, so that all the empty space is at the bottom and then the bottom edge would not be covered up by the bottom status bar.

The first point is likely not going to be done, as our design for controller is to include that status bar overlap. There are going to be strong opinions about the change in NP artwork position on controller, but the majority response so far has been "love it".

The second point may be a bug that's fixable.

Assigning to Noah for comment, but my recommendation for point 1 is WONTFIX, and point 2 is "Ben should investigate".

Ben- Sue is correct in that the album artwork should anchor to the top for this skin (any negative space appears at bottom).

Unfortunately, the 1st point is going to have different camps, however, we are currently working on refinements that might change her mind entirely:)

The problem is that the artwork that comes back from the server for landscape aspect artwork is padded with transparency on the top and bottom (and thus Squeezeplay actually is technically rendering a square image). So it's not as simple as telling squeezeplay to anchor at the top.

FYI, that padding was done purposefully so landscape thumbnails in the album list would appear centered and not anchored to the top.

Descriptive screenshots to follow so bug can be fully understood when/if this is addressed.

landscape artwork not anchored to top

server sends back top and bottom padding and album art appears in the center of the screen

landscape artwork in album list

artwork from server has top and bottom padding to appear centered (in this case, working as designed)

Ben - this is a pretty extreme case is it not? I have never seen this kind of artwork other than this exact case.

We need to be careful about "Non-square" artwork. This does not include any rounded-rect. large app format icons such as Last.fm, etc. Speaking of which...

Ben - is it possible to hide any instances where an app style icon would appear by default? I think we need have an alternative default displayed besides the rounded app style for future...

In all honesty, this bug is likely to end up never addressed. Will leave it open as a future bug for now though
