Comment 2 Michael Herger 2009-08-29 22:46:10 UTC
Felix, Richard - are there limitations in what a player can store in a player name (on the device itself)?
Comment 3 Schindler 2009-08-30 03:38:19 UTC
this was correct before 7.4 and until I changed something in the playername...
Comment 4 Schindler 2009-08-30 03:39:59 UTC
also to mention this player (sb3) is most of the time off (powerless) so not visible to the server.
Comment 5 Felix Mueller 2009-08-30 03:40:57 UTC
Michael: It just stores whatever SC sends, i.e. max 32 ascii characters. I guess it depends on how they are interpreted though. Maybe if it gets set from one PC
and looked at from another with different localization settings it might go
wrong?
Comment 6 Michael Herger 2009-08-31 08:45:58 UTC
Schindler - tested this successfully. "Boom Täscht" survived switching back and forth between several SCs and Squeezenetwork and showed up correctly on all of them.

What browser have you been using to rename the player? Did you rename it when connected to SC or SN? Can you deliberately reproduce it?
Comment 7 Schindler 2009-08-31 09:19:06 UTC
I don't know in which browser i changed, I use Google Chrome on XP, IE8 on XP and Vista.

I only use the local server. (Vista Ultimate/German).

Right now I changed it again with Google Chrome. Will see if it changes again...

As I wrote the player is most of the time off (powerless). Maybe that is the problem...
Comment 8 Schindler 2009-08-31 14:08:42 UTC
just installed Version: 7.4 - r28379 and player name back to: Bro Cornelia

Just only on the:
Player-Modell: squeezebox3
Firmware: 130

On the one Boom where I also added for test purpose an ü this is still intact.

Now I changed it back with IE8 on XP - will see...
Comment 9 Schindler 2009-08-31 14:45:54 UTC

Fixed Bug: 13747 +1
Description: on Windows we need to make sure the playername is utf8 encoded before sending it to the device
Comment 13 Schindler 2009-09-03 13:38:54 UTC
with Version: 7.4 - r28420 I still see this problem.
Comment 14 Michael Herger 2009-09-03 14:45:21 UTC
Did you set the player name again with that version? The issue occurs when setting the name, not when reading.

Also - do you see any error message in server.log?

Don't know what you mean. But if the name was corrupted before the upgrade, you'll have to set it again after the upgrade. The issue I've fixed was when writing the name to the device. Thus you'll have to write that name once before it'll be fixed.
Comment 21 Schindler 2009-09-04 09:18:35 UTC
it is ok, no more change even after server reboot. thanks and sorry for reopen...
Comment 22 Michael Herger 2009-09-04 09:48:33 UTC
