Description Seth Schulte 2009-08-24 15:34:40 UTC
On the "Can't Connect" screen, when no connection can be made to SN, if there are one or more local SCs detected, present them in a list of menu items with the option to connect to each one. This should appear below "Connect again" and above "Help".

When users connect to this SC, they should be presented with the main library menu (i.e., artists, albums, etc.). If they "back" out, they should return to the home menu.

One open question is whether or not the "return to setup" menu should be displayed (currently it is). For now, I'd say leave it but I'll speak with Matt and see what our options might be if we remove it.

Who should this be assigned to?
What milestone?
What priority?
Comment 2 James Richardson 2009-08-25 19:35:04 UTC
Changing product to SP, since this would affect all SP based devices.

Tom to follow up with Seth directly to determine the scope of this request.

Seth, I'm not sure what is being asked of this. Let's talk when you can to get
more detail.

Tom, I'm on vacation this week, but would still like to help move this forward as much as possible.

I just re-read my initial comment, and of course it all sounds perfectly clear to me! ;-)

Can you be a bit more specific re what isn't clear to you?

Just as a summary, the "point" of this is to provide visual notification to the user (in the form of a menu item) that they can connect to a local SC at this point (and, by extension, that they can access their local music and the home menu).

In some sense, this is just making "press-and-hold the 'back' button" more accessible via a menu item.

It is intentionally being added to the "can't connect" screen since we do want to try to connect to SN _first_ for all users. If an Internet connection is available to the device and SN is up/available that will provide the most desirable user experience (in particular, by getting the vast majority of users through the account/player registration process up front as part of the "setup" process).

However, if they can't connect to the Internet or to SN, adding this menu item (if SC is available) will help them to know how to connect to it as a fall-back.

What's not quite clear is whether you are talking about the FW upgrade portion (where a SN connection attempt occurs), or after upgrade, during the SN registration, where a connection to SN attempt occurs.

If the second, then this has been addressed recently. Now, during the SN registration phase of setup, after SN times out, you have a "choose music source" option, which presents a list of compatible(7.4) SCs. If you choose one of them and successfully connect, setup is considered complete and the "return to setup" item goes away. Does that meet your need?

Yes. That should do it. :-)

Marking as resolved.
