Bugzilla – Bug 13521
Pause Icon displayed if player is turned off
Last modified: 2009-10-05 14:29:57 UTC
in 7.4.0 r7155: If I switch the player off with its own remote then the pause icon is displayed on the controller. Seems to be wrong to me - I don't pause, I switch off.
Perhaps a power off or power on show briefly asset should be created and shown instead? Not sure if the underlying code is available for this though and might need to be created as well. Bug 13531 seems related.
Noah, can you put together a showbriefly that includes a power icon (for powering down)? That would be my first choice. Second choice would be no showbriefly at all.
I prefer the second choice, no need to show an icon here...
the text (status of the player) changes immediately - so no need to show an icon.
For 7.4 I would vote for no popup. Agreed pause is not the proper notification. See attached screen comp for potential popup direction.

Matt- FWIW this speaks more about problems with our current syncing behavior then just this one pause notification. Users need more individual and global control over their players when in sync mode. Volume control is another prime example...
The path of least resistance would be to suppress/remove the "pause" notification popup for 7.4. On controller the status bar changes from a play icon displayed to nothing. That in effect is a notification. We can look into these specific player notifications at a later date holistically. Ben- Can you please suppress the popup notification on Controller when a sync'd player is turned off. Seth- In Weldon's absence if you feel differently please reassign appropriately.
This is going to be a little tricky because "off" is, at the code level, actually pause. It shares the same code as a traditional pause event for this, so I will need to explore how to suppress the showBriefly only when the power command is called. This is really not a P1, but I'll see what I can do.
Thanks Ben. FWIW, I also believe the "correct" behavior would be to _not_ have any sort of show briefly (either pause or power) and instead just blank the screen (or go to whatever the user might have set for their "off" screensaver if they've changed it from the default).
