Bugzilla – Bug 13510
Prompt for library even if only one
Last modified: 2009-10-05 14:37:17 UTC
With 7.4 firnmware 7084 or 7115, user reports in forums that he must choose library even though he has only one.
Tom: Isn't this by design?
Going into "my music" having not already selected a library ever, with only one library available, should bring up the library immediately, without needing a selection. Is a bug.
If you think about it, at least 84 percent of users (roughly) have only one Squeezebox. I don't think we have stats on single-SC users but I'll bet it's a similar percentage or higher. So making them choose a library is kind of a non-ideal thing. Agreed, it's a bug.
I think it's a given that we're going to see a considerable increase of multi-library situations once you factor in the possibility of locally attached libraries. Whether or not there is more than one library available at any given time is a different question. In my experience SP has a very bad habit of remembering libraries that aren't currently reachable. For this bug to be fixed effectively, it first must know which libraries are actively available. If it thinks there two libraries when in fact one of them is offline, then the user is still going to be prompted to make a choice.

In that case the system generally works pretty well (not perfect, but it works, you can choose your library). The problem here is the single-library case. And the fact that those users (who will be greater than 50 percent of the user base probably for years to come) are being presented a fairly confusing, unnecessary choice. > In my experience SP has a very bad habit of remembering libraries that aren't > currently reachable. A separate bug though, I think (though intimately related).
== Auto-comment from SVN commit #7347 to the jive repo by tom == == https://svn.slimdevices.com/jive?view=revision&revision=7347 == Bug:13510 +2 Description: - Don't offer library choices if one one SC found. Though do offer the single library if use selects "Switch Library", since other server might come online.
fixed in r7347
Maybe a different bug, but here goes: As a result of this change, when a user has password protection enabled, they no longer know the name of the server/library for which they're being prompted for a username and password. Someone with several libraries with different passwords, but just one available at the time, may not know which one they're being connected to, since they no longer see the prompt. One of the following would address this: 1. If password authentication is enabled on the one available library, put the prompt screen back in. 2. Place the library name in the titlebar of the username and password entry screens.
