Bugzilla – Bug 13437
need a context menu on the nowplaying screen
Last modified: 2009-09-08 09:19:35 UTC
This would essentially be the trackinfo menu, but as a context menu that can be launched from the actual Now Playing screen. If this is a duplicate, I apologize, but I wasn't sure we had committed to this yet (marketing is moving forward assuming that "yes" we will have it, and it's a BIG usability fix IMHO to have it).
Ben: your thoughts on this
Whatever happened to the idea that track title, artist name and album name in Now Playing would be hot spots that function similarly to those in the NP window of the web interface?
Jim: this is not just for fab4. we need this for all devices, all interfaces, including IR remotes. For example, if a song comes up on "my music" that I like, and I have the "now playing" screen in front of me (probably our most important/common use case), I should be able to press + (on any squeezeplay device) and be able to a save that song to favorites without being taken out of the now playing screen.
This was already added earlier today.
I get a context menu when pressing + on the NP screen, but the track info shown is not for the currently playing track. Instead it shows track info for a track later in my playlist. Controller r7158 Server 7.4 - r28225
Verified with r7172. It does not happen on the first track ,but if you skip a few tracks and then hit +, you get the wrong track Context Menu.
Sorry, this is horribly broken. Tom and I have discussed and I have a pretty clear understanding of what it will take to fix. Probably will involve a SC-side change.

Sorry but it's still not working for me in Version: 7.4 - r28243 @ Sat Aug 22 with Controller r7215. From the NP screen I get the "Connecting to server" spinny, and then a context menu overlay, but it's blank. From the playlist, I get the "Connecting to server" spinny, and then it goes back to show the playlist after a while.
I'm changing this to private because Fab4 has already been mentioned in the comments and I also wanted to mention Baby. I can't get a context menu for the currently playing track on Baby, Fab4, or the Controller. I already described what happens on the Controller above. On the Baby, I am getting a track info from the NP screen, but the info shown is for the wrong track. From the list, it does the connecting spinny thing just like on the Controller. On Fab4, I guess there is no context menu from the NP screen? From the current playlist, if I press and hold on the currently playing track, I get the connecting to server spinny screen, then after a while it goes off and the song in the list shows an endless spinny, then when I press the back button, the song starts over from the beginning.
On Fab4 it appears to work using +/More on the remote, but I see no way to pull up a context menu in the touch interface. Has anyone yet proposed how it's to be done via touch?
(In reply to comment #13) > On Fab4 it appears to work using +/More on the remote I should clarify this. On both Fab4 and Baby, the +/More button brings up the Context Menu, but it's still referencing the wrong track.
It does reference the right track, but you'll need the newer baby firmware which hasn't been pushed out yet, plus an up-to-date SC There's an existing bug for the problem of Last.FM "Love this Track" breaking the CM, and anything related to Fab4 is not a 7.4 issue. That will need tracking by a separate bug. https://bugs-archive.lyrion.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13620 this bug can close
(In reply to comment #15) > It does reference the right track, but you'll need the newer baby firmware > which hasn't been pushed out yet, plus an up-to-date SC Time out. WTF kind of response it that? It works but you need a firmware rev that you haven't seen yet? When it's fixed, just say so.

WTF kind of response it that? It works but you need a firmware rev > that you haven't seen yet? Let's take our language down a notch here, please. I don't think that kind of tone is really very constructive, do you? Ben and others are extremely busy now - don't expect to always get a super-verbose response on every single resolved bug. > > When it's fixed, just say so. I think he just did. It sounds like he's checked it in, and that it's in one of the builds, just that we haven't pushed out a nightly since then. Doesn't mean he hasn't seen it in firmware.
Could someone please just say which firmware and server version combos it *should* be working in, because I still can get a context menu for the currently playing track under 7.4-28249 and Controller r7227. Also, my Controller has become completely unstable with 7227. Keeps trying to reconnect constantly, and the battery was down to "please recharge me" after having it out of the cradle for less than an hour.
Sue, do you use Last.FM audioscrobbler? If so, Context Menu from Now Playing is still broken because of an issue in the "Love this Track" item destroying the response object. That bug is 13620 and is not fixed yet.
Yes, I do use Last.fm scrobbler. But I am still confused because that bug (13620) is for Fab4.
Sorry, wrong bug. 13260 is for Fab4 getting access to the CM. The scrobbling CM bug is bug#13568
