If the Mac OS Control Panel for Squeezebox Server is already open, and a notification for update comes in, it is not possible to allow the update to proceed regardless of going back and forth between Show All and Squeezebox Server. The Control Panel has to be closed first, and then re-opened, and Squeezebox Server then selected, before the update dialog will be presented.

Would I be correct in then assuming the control panel instance dictates the presentation of the "There is an update..." dialog, and not the selection of the individual Squeezebox Server panel?

In otherwords, is this a bug, or just an unavoidable side effect of the Control Panel mechanism itself?

I'm not sure I understand. You get the notification within the panel? You
then click "yes" and it would block the prefpane?

We're talking about the notification dialog in the prefpane or the growl
notification?

Mike C responds:

No, not within the panel. That's where it doesn't occur.

The notification comes via Growl first (thanks to you!), at the bottom of the screen (as I have Growl configured).

But if I already have the Control Panel->Squeezebox Server panel open when the Growl notification appears, the overlay dialog within Control Panel->Squeezebox Server that would normally appear on first opening CP->SS, asking to proceed with the update, never appears.

If then I close CP, and re-open CP->SS, the overlay appears, asking to update.

Fixed Bug: 13317
Description: show update message even when the PrefPane was open before the update download finished. The first notification will be shown within a minute. If you decide to be reminded later, it will only check every hour. Thus even if you get the Growl notification, it might still take another hour until you see the popup, if you've dismissed it before.
Worktime: 2.5
