Bugzilla – Bug 13274
Remove mentions of "RadioTime" from standard internet radio menus
Last modified: 2009-09-08 09:18:45 UTC
Came across this just now, don't know how I missed it before. The "Talk," "Sports," "Music" etc. submenus are titled "RadioTime Talk," "RadioTime Sports" etc. We should remove the "RadioTime" string from standard "internet radio," but maybe leave them in the actual RadioTime app.
IMO, the way we have obscured the fact that most of the Internet Radio menu structure is really coming from RT is already confusing. Most new users don't understand that the RT tab on SN has anything to do with Internet Radio. Even fewer understand that they can customize these menus via the presets tab on RT.com. I don't care whether we keep the RT branding or not, but we need a way to make this more clear. It's a powerful feature (and we pay $ to RT), but most new users don't get it.
Mark: the way we're solving this is by having 2 completely separate experiences: - standard Internet Radio makes NO mention of RadioTime anywhere (except this bug AFAIK). RadioTime account login won't be part of this, it will be completely separate. So for the 99.x percent of users who have never heard of, or care about, RadioTime, they'll never have to know it exists. It will just be "internet radio." - SEPARATELY, there will be a RadioTime app that people can get from the App Gallery and install. THIS app will be branded as RadioTime, will have a RadioTime account login, etc. SO people who are familiar with that brand and/or want that experience (with customization etc) will have it available. So, yeah, resolving this bug is part of that overall solution. I hope what we came up with is a pretty good compromise that will make everyone happy...
I guess part of my bias is that I just don't trust GeoIP, so I think users get a much better experience if they have an RT account. Maybe we could ask for a postal code during SN sign-up to make the local listings more accurate.

I agree with you Mark, we USED to ask customers for a zip code ensuring that they got the proper radio list... Just my 2 farthings worth
Those titles are delivered by RadioTime as part of their menu. Someone will have to talk to them about changing them.
In that case, don't worry about it...
