Description Mike Cappella 2009-08-05 18:26:19 UTC
I was entering my passphrase, and on several occasions noticed that the direction of letter scroll changed on my randomly. I was able to reproduce this several times.

Also, the distance of letter jump seemed to be random at times too... sometimes one rotation click would jump dozens of letters, other times only a one or more.

Mike: Please include instructions for us to replicate this error. I have not seen this on r6950 so I need to know where to look?
Comment 2 Mike Cappella 2009-08-07 18:04:23 UTC
This occurred on passphrase entry of my WPA2 passphrase during wireless setup.

Shall I try to reproduce on 6950 (which I'm on now)?
Comment 3 Mike Cappella 2009-08-07 18:16:45 UTC
I did a factory reset from 6950.

I'm not sure I can tell what is going on. Let's start with... when the knob is turned semi-rapidly, and acceleration jumps in, the distance moved with the letters seems random and chaotic. I can't follow it.

Perhaps I was seeing the old bicycle wheel stroboscopic affect?

It is easy to produce this behavior; just move the knob back and forth several times, changing the speed, and you should notice that the jump in the character set is no longer consistent or followable.

Yes, please try with the new firmware

I do agree that the acceleration does seem a bit aggressive; when you slow it down to a medium speed it appears to be moving in the proper directions.

There doesn't seem to be in inherit problem with the scrolling though, so I'm closing this bug.
Comment 6 Jim McAtee 2009-08-12 15:04:21 UTC
Should there be _any_ acceleration? I found the acceleration to be very confusing. I won't say I can actually count 'clicks' when moving large distances between characters, but I think you subconsciously get a feel for how many there should be. When that changes, it really throws you off.

Valid point JJ...

Pat, what would be your decision on this?
Comment 8 Pat Ransil 2009-08-12 20:06:47 UTC
I have been playing with the knob and we might be able to tune it better but it is definitely good enough to not be a P1. I am changing to a P3 and we can look at it sometime later after the big issues are done.

I see this, with Player Model: controller
Firmware: 7.4.0-r7241

It makes it nearly impossible to get the right userid/password in.

This is further made painful by recent insistance on logging to mysqueezebox, com even when you just want the controller to control your own music server.

IMHO, this is seriously user hostile.

"Should there be _any_ acceleration? "

I think not in this use case. IMHO, of course

this is an administrative shuffle on priority fields to help make better judgment on the top end of the priority list. P4->P5, P3->P4, and P2->P3.

I've got my radio a couple of weeks ago and with fw 7.4.1 and have experienced this problem.

7.4.x milestone is in the past

"7.4.x milestone is in the past"

For sure, but this bug has been in the system since Radio beta days.

While I will agree that its lower than P1 or P2 bugs, it is not a good user experience. Its a bit less painful these days as the insistence on logging into mysqueezebox, com is less intrusive.

Unassigned bugs cannot have a priority.
