Description Pat Ransil 2009-08-05 11:53:58 UTC
If Baby is on my night stand and there is a power failure off/on, when rebooting it will play music while displaying "Free your music" and wake me up. This is an issue both in soft-poweroff and when power is on but no music is playing.
Comment 1 Richard Titmuss 2009-08-07 14:16:42 UTC
Pat, can you clarify. When I discussed this with Dean before we were going to suppress the startup tone after a "system crash".

It's not possible to detect a power failure, but still play the tone when you plug the power in out-of-the-box or turn it on normally.
Comment 2 Pat Ransil 2009-08-07 19:30:14 UTC
This has nothing to do with a crash. Just pull the plug, plug back in and wait. It boots and when it gets to the "Free your music" screen, it plays some music. If I am sleeping and this is on my night stand, if there is a power failure in my home, this will wake me up when power comes back on. Don't like that.

This happens even if in 'soft power off' state. Retested today on 7.4 r7062
Comment 4 Pat Ransil 2009-08-18 13:29:19 UTC
I think the req is to play the tune after booting due to an intentional power cycle. This would include the first time it is turned on after you take it out of the box and if you do a hard power cycle by holding down the power key. Probably not any other times. We certainly don't want it to play if your home had a power failure and power comes back at 3am.
Comment 5 Blackketter Dean 2009-08-18 13:33:14 UTC
Ideally, this should be:

Out of the box/Factory Reset - Play boot sound
Firmware update - Play boot sound
After graceful/manual shutdown - Play boot sound
Crash - Suppress boot sound
Unexpected power failure - Suppress boot sound

Which means that we should have a bit that is reset during a factory reset or graceful shutdown, firmware update that enables the boot sound, otherwise, don't play it.

Does that make sense?

Bug #13251
Refactor Squeezebox*Applets, to allow them to share common code. Some utility and
initialization functions are now shared.

Added a cleanReboot flag, so allow the startup tone to be supressed on an un-intentional
power cycle (eg crash or power failure).

Meta class inheritance broken the service registration, only use inheritance for the
applet.
