Description Joerg Schwieder 2009-08-03 01:17:43 UTC
I just had a strange effect when I powered up my Controller.
The Controller was connected to a player on a 7.4 server an it requested a SW update when I powered it up.
I wasn't sure, which server it's connected to and since I didn't want to go through an unnecessary update cycle I backed out of the update menu.

It did show up correctly on the 7.4 server (although it reports no player to be connected, also not itself).
It ALSO shows up on my 7.3.3 server, there under the name of a player that DEFINITELY never has been connected to that server, that player has always only been connected to the 7.4 server.
It also shows up in the list of players under this name on the Controller itself.
The FW version reported is "0".

One more thing: The player the name belongs to (actually that player doesn't even have that name anymore) doesn't show up on the controller, it does show up on the server when I use iPeng.

Michale to verify this issue, he believes the issue should be fixed already

Jörg - is this different from bug 12654? What revision/branch are you testing with?
Comment 4 Joerg Schwieder 2009-08-03 13:56:05 UTC
It's not the most recent builds.
It's 7.3.3 (release version)
7.4 r27678
Controller r5580

Feel free to re-open if you still see this issue with the latest build.

*** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 12654 ***

Sorry, I haven't made myself clear enough. This is NOT a duplicate of 12654.

12654 was about players on a no-longer-present server showing up under "other players" on a server.

THIS is about a Controller (as a player) showing up fully connected on two running servers at the same time. On one of them under an old name of a different player.
As I said, both were showing as connected, delivering menus, I didn't try to actually play something.

I can't reproduce this since I believe it was triggered by a firmware update on the controller.

The scenario was as follows:
The Controller was connected before to a player on server A, 7.4
Server A triggered a firmware update on the Controller which I backed out of which left the Controller showing itself as unconnected.
At that moment, the controller showed up on server A and server B (7.3.3)

One thing that could be a cause - since I'm switching players around quite a bit here - is that I switched the player to which the controller was connected before from Server B to Server A while the controller was off.

QA to reproduce.

Jörg - I still think it might be related to the other bug. It caused player lists never to be purged which could cause "phantom" players to show up. If ever you see this again, please check whether you see it on old systems (pre latest 7.4 build) only or on the latest too.

Anoop to give a try at reproducing this.
Comment 9 James Richardson 2009-10-30 15:39:14 UTC
Joerg: with the release of 7.4.x, are you still seeing this issue or can I close the bug now?
Comment 10 Joerg Schwieder 2009-10-31 04:44:36 UTC
Little hard to reproduce right now :-)
I'll reopen if I see this again.
Comment 11 Michael Herger 2010-01-08 05:22:24 UTC
Thanks, feel free to re-open.
