Bugzilla – Bug 13072
way to back out of Keypad Diagnostics
Last modified: 2009-08-14 10:37:56 UTC
I realize after all buttons have passed the Keypad Diag test Baby automatically exits Keypad Diagnostics, but there are three situations where a user may want (or need) to back out prior to completing this test: 1. user enters into Keypad Diag by mistake, does not want to go through every button to exit 2. Wheel Knob left & right Diag requires a number of "clicks" to pass test (which makes sense), but a user may not spin enough clicks to pass test 3. a button fails Diag (button no longer functions) Maybe a note below the buttons displayed on the screen: "to exit Keypad Diagnostic Test, press and hold BACK button for three seconds" Hopefully the BACK button is not the malfunctioning button. :)
The whole point of the keypad test is to verify the functionally of ALL buttons. Creating a way to 'back out' would defeat the reason for even having this test. 1) users should not be going into this test unless asked to by Techincal Support 2) yes, that is the whole point of the test 3) if a key Fails, the test still registers a key press event, but will display an error condition. As you point out, pressing and holding the BACK button will send a force exit command to break out of the test (or any other stuck screen)
1. Agreed: user should not be in there, but you can bet they will be :) 2. Agreed: whole point of the test, assuming user performs enough Wheel clicks 3. Disagree: pressing and holding the BACK button does not exit the Keypad Diag screen for an incomplete test. 4. Agreed: I'm being overly nit-picky about this. Probably rarely come up in any of these conditions. I was not aware a broken button would still pass the test (as an error) which was my initial concern that a single non-functioning button would render Baby unusable (can't exit Keypad Diag) but I now know this is not the case. Thanks :)

FYI: You can get out of an incomplete Keypad Diag test if a Screensaver pops up during test (Now Playing or Clock) by simply hitting the Home button when Screensaver is on the screen. But this brings up two points: 1. Do you want any Screensavers interrupting any/all diags being attempted. 2. Still can't back out of incomplete Keypad Diag if no Screensaver is active (without an IR remote, anyway). I realize #2 is not very important, just an FYI. :)
