Location-based Radio Menu changes...
Last modified: 2009-07-29 14:59:33 UTC
I suggest a small change to the "Internet Radio" menu to more clearly let users know that they are local terrestrial radio stations. Instead of labeling them "Local", use their Geo-location to label them like "<location> Stations". Ie, "San Francisco Stations". From inside this menu, an additional bottom-menu option should be "Change Location" which allows the user to ender in a new Zip Code in case we guess their location wrong.
Matt Wise and I just discussed this, I think it's a great change. To clarify, there are two small features here: 1 - replace "Local" with the name of your city and state/country. 2 (maybe later?) add an option at the bottom of the "local" menu: "change location". That option allows you to enter a new zip or postal code. All this assumes we can actually execute on this of course.
We could do this if we paid more for the GeoIP City version. http://www.maxmind.com/app/geoip_features
I think it's worth it (we could probably do a lot more cool stuff with this too, like displaying location-based favorites etc.), but hey what do I know...
It already does this for us -- that is, gathering your local stations -- all were talking about doing is showing the name of the region your in so that it gives the user some idea of whats behind that menu. Matt, What do you think about adding AM/FM to the menu item name so that its a bit more clear?
