Description James Richardson 2009-07-14 12:28:21 UTC
The line-in gain is set too high, and may cause baby to reboot when volume is set too high on the input device
Comment 1 Caleb Crome 2009-07-16 15:09:41 UTC
Ha, the gain was set to 20dB when we initially brought up the codec, and we never put it back to something reasonable. no wonder we were hearing noise.

We should implement a line-in alsa option, UI setting.

I'll open separate bugs for those though.

Fixed in bug 6632.

QA, Please verify that this new line-in level is reasonable and about what you want.

Of course, I mean fixed in svn 6632.

CXR feedback is that the Line In gain now needs to be a little higher than currently. On iPod, volume is 75-100% to get to reasonable Baby volume, CX team reports.

Testing with r7757, PVT2.
With iPhone volume set ~50% and Baby volume set at 50%, sound is definitely lower than 50% volume not using LineIn. It is about like 20% volume without LineIn.

I would expect this. We want the customer to increase the gain on their product, in order to improve SNR. I'm not sure we want to change this.

After discussion we will leave it the way it currently is, the customer will need to change the volume on the source.
