Bugzilla – Bug 12720
Turn off all synchronized players by keeping POWER pressed for more than XXX seconds
Last modified: 2011-11-06 23:24:09 UTC
Motivation: Add an easy functionality to turn off the music on all synchronized players which are currently playing (even when on/off is not synchronized). Idea: 1) Pressing POWER on one player of a sync group for more than XXX (e.g. XXX=3) seconds should turn off all currently sync'ed players which are playing at the moment 2) It should remember which players of the sync group were on. Then, pressing POWER again for XXX seconds should turn those players on again. 3) Pressing POWER quickly (for a time shorter than XXX seconds) should still behave as usual, only turning the respective player on / off. Use case: 1) Stop all my sync'ed players when leaving the house. 2) When returning, start those players again (without waking up the other players of the sync group which were not playing at the time. Background: I have 4 squeezeboxes in my house, all in the same sync group and playing the same, but I don't want to synchronize turn off/on for some reason (e.g. because I still want to decide in what rooms there should be music). But in the morning when leaving for work it is cumbersome to turn each player in every room off manually or through "Other Players" plugin. Implementation: - for the booms: use the power button - for both classic and booms: use the power button on the remote This would greatly enhance usability - curious to hear your comments. Is it possible to add? Thanks Steve
I'm not inclined to add this for 7.4 as we are past the new functionality cutoff. A long press on Power is already used for some other function by the firmware, if I recall correctly. Felix, can you comment? You can use Stop (long press on Pause) to stop all the currently-on players in a sync-group. It does not turn them off but since 'off' is really not much more than a display state I'm not sure that that matters much. I'll bear this idea in mind for a future release.
All ip3k based players except for Squeezebox Receiver reboot when you press and hold power. SBR goes into setup mode when pressing and holding the one button it has.
I think that rules out overloading the Power button. I like the idea of having a button to power-off the current set of on players in a sync-group, without having to have them set to sync-power. I suspect that, if we could find a suitable UI-gesture, then the semantic in the 'on' direction would be to power-on the whole sync-group, not just those that were powered-off this way. Matt, I'll pass this to you to see if you can come up with a suitable UI-gesture.
Matt Weldon doesn't work for us any more.
