Bugzilla – Bug 12577
Mac Pref Pane missing manual "look for updates" step.
Last modified: 2009-07-06 06:49:39 UTC
I just noticed the Mac Pref Pane now promtps to install a new upgrade if available. However, there is no manual "upgrade now" button which IMHO is very important on Mac. Rationale: I usually never shut down my Mac (as a lot of Mac users do) and a preference Pane - once started - stays active so you only come to see this message whenever your Mac has crashed or been rebooted for other reasons. Also, if you decide you don't update now but want to to it an hour later, there's no way to do so (from the pref. pane).
I'm glad Matt's already CCed on this bug :-). We removed the manual update button deliberatly. It's a design decision we took. BTW: the check is done by SC too, not only the PrefPane. It should still show you a message if an update is available. It will either use Growl (if available) or bring the prefpane to the front. Unless signalupdate.scpt is broken again... can you try to run it "osascript signalupdate.scpt something interesting here"? (but then this would be a different bug ;-))
Errr... I just understand station :-) How do I run this? I have a Mac but I'm not a hardcore Mac guy... I never saw anything coming up unless at boot time and if you should be taking about the web interface, I also very rarely use that (except for setting where I don't get the message). I also don't run the server continuously right now because the current betas consume LOTS of CPU time and then there's this:https://bugs-archive.lyrion.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12576 But still, I don't get the message when I start or stop the server, too.
Hmm... seems the mail -> bugzilla gateway is broken again. My response didn't make it :-(. This is kind of a dupe of 12120 I guess. So you never see any notification? Neither Growl (http://growl.info/screenshots.php) nor the PrefPane popping up? What does your server.log say? It's a design decision that we're not offering a "Check now" button. Either enable auto updating (then you should get a notification) or download/install manually. Please note that the autoupdating does not work when running SBS from the source (SVN).
12120 is closed, so I use this one. Yes, I never see any of those. The only notification I get is the one when I open the pref. pane after a reboot.
I reopened bug 12120 - please attach your server.log file to it. This bug here might be closed as "wontfix".
closing this bug, as we decided _not_ to have a "check now" button. If you still don't get notifications, please update on bug 12210. Thanks!
