Bugzilla – Bug 12541
status bar items appear in off mode if you push any button or turn any knob
Last modified: 2010-05-27 14:45:46 UTC
In "off" mode, the status bar shouldn't appear at all.
Will do. Should anything appear instead to let the user know that the device is in the off state (like for instance a power icon indicator somewhat similar to the touch way)? The user might have a non-blank SS set as the off SS and users (or, say, spouses of said users) might be frustrated as to why the device isn't responding, since there is no indication that the device is in an off state.
If the blank ss is set, then the screen should be dimmed and black. Since there's a hard button to turn it on, no need for anything else on the screen. I don't think it's necessary to tell them that it's off, if they've turned it off. The first thing they'll try to do is turn it on.
Dang! That's one of my worst grievances with ip3k... I don't remember if I or someone else turned it off, so coming back to the devices is always a hit or miss experience. Why assume only one user uses the device and that that one user has a good memory?
So, in all the screensaver modes, the status bar should be suppressed. The "off" mode is a screensaver mode. That screensaver is an indication that the thing is off. Now, on Boom, the default "off" screensaver is the clock, which does what you want, show something to indicate that it's off. There are a few ways to turn it on, (power being the most prominent, but also PLAY and the presets). That seems to work well. Given that Baby has a battery, I suspect that the "off" screensaver for it, at least when running on battery, should be the screen full off, and stay off until the user turns it on.
fixed in r6272 -- non-primary actions don't temporarily wake "off SS" for baby.
