Description Blackketter Dean 2009-06-06 07:11:40 UTC
After discussing with Noah I'd like the following changes:

1. Remove the year and center the month in the space on the right. The year is really pretty unnecessary and just the last two digits aren't super intuitive.

2. Move the teal day to white. That color highlight is also unnecessary and makes the page look unbalanced.

Noah to provide an updated reference image.

Can we make the date and time formats user configurable like on the IP3K datetime screensaver? Also, isn't date-month vs.month-date a localization issue where we should support both?
Comment 2 Jim McAtee 2009-06-06 10:18:56 UTC
Get rid of the little boxes and proved some degree of formatting control.
Comment 3 Jim McAtee 2009-06-06 10:32:07 UTC
And the background is way too bright. If you try to compensate by dialing down the overall brightness of the SBT you end up with a very flat, low contrast clock screen that looks like crap.

Dean- items 1 and 2 have been corrected. Is there any further direction or can this be set to resolved?
Comment 5 Blackketter Dean 2009-07-17 08:07:26 UTC
The default clock with the grey background isn't really working. it's too bright to use at night, and in bright lights doesn't have enough contrast.

Let's remove it and leave just "Digital Clock" and "Digital Clock (Black)"
Comment 6 Ben Klaas 2009-07-17 08:14:24 UTC
"Digital Clock" is the gray background...are you saying to move the transparent one to be the default "Digital Clock"?

Noah should weigh in on this. The black and transparent background clocks were just quick hacks done solely by me, and I do not claim to be a graphic designer.
Comment 7 Blackketter Dean 2009-07-17 08:15:54 UTC
Yeah, I had a conversation with Noah about it yesterday and decided to
remove the grey one.

The black and transparent ones should stay and the black one should be
indicated as such.

Dean,

The decision to remove the "gray background" will NOT solve the issue of brightness at night. Even on a black background (where you are inc. the contrast) it will be far too bright even using the ambient light sensor to dim the display. Have you tested this and feel that it is acceptable?

Please see https://bugs-archive.lyrion.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12447. This was filed as an enhancement of what we currently are using for the "gray" treatment. The general concept is for a night and day version of the default. The only change would be to the font color and background to switch btwn day and night.
Comment 9 Jim McAtee 2009-07-17 11:31:31 UTC
Can't the gray background just be lightened? I really like the effect, but it's far too bright to be useful.
Comment 10 Blackketter Dean 2009-07-22 09:14:58 UTC
The night-time problem is that there's too much area of the screen that's grey. let's get rid of that and just use black.

Re: bug 12447 - let's fix the ambient light dimming to work in all light arrangements rather than hack around the current bheavior.

Moving to the product SqueezePlay because this bug appears to apply to any player based on that application code. Feel free to move it back if it's specific to the single original product.
Comment 12 Weldon Matt 2009-07-22 17:06:53 UTC
If we REALLY wanted to be clever with this, we'd change the background based on what time of day it is :-).
Comment 13 ndijulio 2009-07-22 17:22:30 UTC
That is my exact proposal. See https://bugs-archive.lyrion.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12447
Comment 14 Ben Klaas 2009-08-26 07:53:55 UTC
this is an administrative shuffle on priority fields to help make better judgment on the top end of the priority list. P4->P5, P3->P4, and P2->P3.
Comment 15 Ben Klaas 2009-10-01 14:31:27 UTC
there's nothing to fix specific to this bug any more
