Bugzilla – Bug 12287
Squeezebox will not auto retune
Last modified: 2009-09-08 09:27:43 UTC
According to Logitech engineering: "When a host drops the stream for any reason, our products will not 'auto tune'into the station again." It was suggested by Logitech Engineering that I submit this as an "Enhancement Bug". I do not consider this an enhancement but an important modification to the software. Virtually all of my Squeezebox listening is to commercial radio stations via the Squeezenetwork. I frequently have to manually restart the audio stream.
Alan: Can you describe what the auto-reconnect behavior is for remote streams (both Classic-based and SqueezePlay-based) devices? Ken: Do you have an example stream that exhibits this behavior? This doesn't happen to me very often, but I want to make sure that we're trying to keep the music going without getting into a state where we're hammering remote servers.
The behaviour is the same for both both ip3k-based and SqueezePlay-based players. There is no sort of auto retune functionality. However, if the repeat setting is set to repeat-song, it will start the station again. So long as it succeeds, it will reset the error counter and restart again if it fails again.
This is particularly annoying for non live streams such as podcasts and listen again streams. I've implemented a reconnect mechanism in the iplayer plugin just for this as several people were seeing streams disconnect. I think it would be a good addition to the core server to do something other than rely on repeat. I occasionally get chopped off songs on napster too which I suspect is the streaming connection ending early, so I think it would be a general purpose addition for remote streams.
(In reply to comment #1) > > Ken: Do you have an example stream that exhibits this behavior? I believe I was connected to radio station KQED in San Francisco. I only received the message "Connection reset by remote host" *once*, Although, I have been experiencing radio station disconnects ever since I received my Squeezebox. I use my SB strictly to listen to radio stations and I've experienced this problem with any station I've tuned to. An interesting observation: I also have a Roku Soundbridge that is used for exactly the same purpose, i.e., listening to radio stations via the internet. For testing purposes I've tuned by the Roku unit and the Squeezebox to the same radio station and the Roku has kept on playing while the Squeezebox stops.
