Description James Richardson 2009-06-03 13:55:49 UTC
Following the 'Installing' instructions at the above WIKI page, I am unable to get the SBC Applet Installer to function properly.

Modifying the instructions to simply place the root folder into the \plugins\ folder doesn't work either

SBC will always report that "No Applets Found > " NOTE the '>' at the end of the sentence that should not be there, as right clicking will simply bounce the SBC screen
----------
Using the 'Manual Install' instructions, I can get the applet installed, but they will not function properly

James - the wiki needs updating. The mechanism in 7.3 is really assuming applets are hosted in an extension downloader repo. (Retrobrowser for the controller is available via my repo for instance. I believe there is also a repo for the lyrics applet)

The applets on this page are probably quite out of date - so I am not sure they will actually work with 7.3 or later, even if we repackage them.

How it should work for 7.3 is you add the relavent repo to the extension downloader list and this is then available to browse via applet installer. I expect more major changes for 7.4 to align with changes to app management, so if we are targetting 7.4 we should leave until then. However for 7.3 we should really update the wiki and include details of any applets in the repos.

Maybe we should just remove this wiki page then or redirect them to the Extensions Downloader Page and remove Applet Installer from SBC
Comment 3 Adrian Smith 2009-06-03 15:28:06 UTC
Don't remove applet installer - it uses Extension Downloader. What's out of date is the wiki page.
Comment 4 James Richardson 2009-06-03 15:32:04 UTC
OK...can you update the wiki, or should I
Comment 5 Adrian Smith 2009-06-07 12:17:19 UTC
I'll add a comment to the wiki not to use these versions of the applets as the installation mechanism no longer works.

What would make this more powerful is if we repackage these applets and host them for downloading via Applet Installer using the recommended 3rd part repo. Are we ok with doing this? This would be for a 7.3.2-3 controller version of the applets.

Triode: I'm a little confused as to what you are asking. Repackaging the applets to make them work makes sense to me.
Comment 7 Adrian Smith 2009-06-09 11:42:03 UTC
Well it was more are we ok with adding the packaged applets to the default 3rd party repo (so they will show up by default)

I think the versions on the wiki page need some fixes to work though with the latest 7.3 so its more work than I planned origionally. Also do we have the authors permission to modify and redistribute? At least one of the Invader files references the LPSL!

Dean: please comment
Comment 9 Blackketter Dean 2009-06-30 15:36:40 UTC
Yes, I think it's ok to have these in the default 3rd party repo for 7.4
Comment 10 James Richardson 2012-02-09 10:07:44 UTC
The wiki page appears to be updated and correct now
