Description Siduhe 2009-05-31 07:03:26 UTC
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=63933

Title says it all really. 7.4 v26754 will start up but all later Windows builds fail to start on XP (not sure if other Windows OS are affected).

Windows Event Viewer has the following error message:

The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( Application ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: Undefined subroutine &main::main called at slimserver.pl line 97.

I have tried with firewall and antivirus disabled and then uninstalled. No improvement.

Someone may want to amend the Component element of this report - wasn't sure where it properly belonged.

One Vista user also affected:

I tried a full uninstall and reinstall. No luck, either. With "main" missing, I'm not surprised it doesn't start. Must be something broken in the auto-validation process. I noticed that the home server version didn't get pushed out - I wonder if it had the same issue, but was caught.

I tried installing it on windows 7 and same problem. I uninstalled it restarted computer, disabled security software, reinstalled it and it would not start. I then tried to restart computer (with it still installed) and it would not start up. There is no server log file.

The port tests failed also. I never had a problem with this before. 7.4 build 26754 was working fine. I'm using Norton IS 2009.

change 26788 - fixes the one particular crasher Siduhe reported. Other issues remain to be fixed now :-(
Comment 6 Michael Herger 2009-06-01 09:30:04 UTC
change 26790 fixed the second outstanding issue

Just to confirm that v26797 (latest automatic update) is starting up and working fine, save that you still need to manually kill the Squeezebox Control Panel process before Squeezecenter will start. The Control Panel process is running but there is no UI box which pops up as normally so you have to go into a task manager to kill it.

If you do not kill the cp process, Squeezecenter will not start. Others have reported the same on the forums. I think that makes it mostly rather than completely fixed.

After a while the *cp.exe process will GPF and then things kind of free up. I had some issues with getting the user id/password into the service (above it taking about 3 minutes to apply or OK any changes). I did end up rebooting the box to get everything back in line. Some parts seemed to pop up a lot quicker and I got a web ui much faster than the forum reported 20 minutes (about 5). Starting the service up through the windows service control panel applet reported a timeout problem but it did start OK - just took too long.

Not sure how "done" this area is yet. Not sure if these items should be in other bug(s) or not - just making sure to mention them. If you need more step-by-step details let me know and I will more completely document everything.
