Bugzilla – Bug 12170
Wallpaper Default should be "Nocturne" or "Encore"
Last modified: 2009-09-08 09:28:33 UTC
I am assigning to you Ben, however, please delegate as needed. Currently, the default is Black which is not very exciting:)
Yes, black is so 2008. I'd love to consider something with a little more color as the default. I'm partial to Encore. Any reason to stick with grey, Noah?
The problem with any background other than pure black is that they all diminish the contrast to some degree and thus the ability to distinguish the foreground text. While it would certainly be nice to see more color, using any of the other backgrounds presents a less optimal user interface.
+1 for Encore as default. Noah, thoughts?
I am open to using Encore, Sonata, or Nocturne as the default. The plan was to use what is now called Nocturne as the default pre MP. I was sticking to the plan as you will be pushed out of settings (wallpaper-Nocturne) and into the UI wallpaper-TBD). What I would NOT advise is having any of the full color wallpapers appear during setup. That needs to remain Nocturne. There was some feedback that having a different wallpaper was distracting, however, this did not come from me:) Keep in mind too that all of the new wallpapers can have a different color palettes with the exception of symphony. We can create color families within each direction...
Encore (fab4_encore.png) is now the default when using either of the two skins intended for Fab4. change is in r5910 of currently less importance: jive_sunrise.png is the default when loading ControllerSkin jive_midnight.png is the default when loading FullscreenSkin
Nocturne is still the DEFAULT for Setup correct? This should NOT change.
I just changed the default to nocturne. I don't have time to deal with special cases, so it's nocturne everywhere. r5913
Sorry Ben. The good news is that Encore is only a few clicks away...
Noah: Why do we need Nocturne for setup?
The UI was tuned using Nocturne. It is also a fairly neutral background and more appropriate for Setup screens than Encore or the others. Setup should be clean, sterile, comforting, and detached from any flair or embellishment. From a usability and visual standpoint less is more for setup.
I don't think this is working as desired. I see a perfectly black background following the initial setup (after a factory reset), not Nocturne. When I go into Settings > Screen > Wallpaper, I see Encore selected. The all black background isn't even an available selection. I think it should be - call it 'Black' or 'None' or something.
