Description Peter Oliver 2009-05-22 11:08:05 UTC
In the web UI, a list of plugins and their settings can be found on the "Plugins" tab. However, they are installed via the "Extension Downloader". This is confusing. One term should be selected and then used consistently throughout the UI.

Matt: as you review the strings in SC and SN, let's make sure we're consistent when we talk about the addon software.

As we're moving to calling all user-addable features "apps", much of this is easy. But underneath the hood, we have plugins, applets, wallpapers, extensions, etc...
Comment 2 Mark Miksis 2009-05-23 20:45:30 UTC
Regardless of what they're called, there's also a distinction between "included", "recommended" and "3rd party" that could be clearer.

There has been some discussion about doing some sort of "verified app"-type stamp for apps, but we haven't sorted out the details of that just yet. Stay tuned

this is an administrative shuffle on priority fields to help make better judgment on the top end of the priority list. P4->P5, P3->P4, and P2->P3.

So I think this bug should be reviewed given what we have in 7.4 for plugins. "Extensions" should no longer be used in extenal naming (its used internally in the code and as the name of a plugin, but users will just see the plugin page).

The plugin page has also been changed to hopefully make the plugins categories simpler, but it would be good to have feedback on this.

There is already a semi verified plugin mechanism - plugins & apps only make make it to the recommended repo when they receive 3 or more nominations on the forums, the author is known and it has been reviewed by one of the devs.

I think one of the more imporant things to address in furture is where apps appear in the menu structure - previously applets/plugins have tended to use the extras menu on the player - this is somewhat hidden on SP and this needs to be fixed or an alternative established..

let's add Extras back as the app gallery won't be what we wanted it to be
