Description ian_mazoff 2009-05-10 19:51:15 UTC
When you are 10 screens deep, it would be nice to have a "Home" button on the touchscreen, not just on the remote. Takes too long to go back 10 screens (or more, etc.) manually.

It might not be the most discoverable featured, but press-hold on the back button goes home from any screen

As does a left-to-right swipe of your finger across the screen.

Extra hint: right-to-left will jump you to the now playing screen.

From Fab4 CX review:

".... I believe there are too many situations where one has to rely on a type of “back” button to get around through way too many screens."

Discussion revolved around easy-to-discover methods of going to home. One possible solution was popping up a message like "you pressed left too often. did you know you can do a left-to-right swipe?" Does not mean a home button on every screen.

Another CX review comment:

"1)	We need a “Home” button at ALL times. When I am too deep within a sub-menu and want to quickly access one of the main home screen options, I have to tap on “Back” MANY times. One of the “hidden” features is to tap and hold Back button to get to Home faster, but seriously, how many of our users are going to know that?"

If we remove the back button in favor of a home button, how do users discover how to go back one window?

This ends up being a tradeoff either way, and there's not room in the UI to deliver both buttons. FWIW, this topic was intensely discussed by the old design team, and the back button with press-hold to go home and swipe to go home was identified as the best available solution.

Also note, Settings->Advanced->Beta Features->Shortcuts allows both button and swipe actions to be configurable. You can set the left button to be home (and the icon will change accordingly), and you can make the swipe go back one window instead of all the way home.

My recommendation for this bug is WONTFIX
