Description Doug Williams 2009-05-02 13:34:42 UTC
This is visually confusing because a right arrow normally means that you are drilling further into something.

I suggest a "Musical Note" symbol or "Play" icon. Unfortunately, the "Play" icon is easily confused with a right arrow so I would prefer the musical note symbol.

Something to consider: If there is ever an option to have the user set the default action then it would be nice to have an icon for each one. A "Play triangle or note", "MusicIP M", "Information I" (or the right arrow??), even an "Add +", etc.

CCs were added per bklass from the forum, I also took the liberty of setting a target since it seemed likely to be worked on.

I agree, a note symbol for a song is the right thing here. That implies that you'll hear music, without making it a play indicator/button (which exists on the NP screen.)

Radio stations should have a little radio tower icon.

> symbols should be reserved for when touching takes you into another menu.

Ben: do you have the assets you need for this?

I'm fairly certain I do not. Noah, if I'm incorrect, assign back to me.

Correct, I will need to generate a "musical note" symbol to fulfill this request.

Dean,

Do we really need more symbols? Or can we have no symbol to indicate you are at the end of the line? What is displayed when you are at the end of the line and the item does not play anything?

I tend to agree with Noah that no symbol is the cleanest solution - at least, we should try this first and only add new symbols if we feel they are needed.

The "confusion" is in the arrows, so why not just remove the arrows? People will still select the songs IMO, even with no symbol...

We need a symbol to indicate what this thing is. It can be album art or a placeholder and it can be on the left or the right, but we need something.

For now, please add the note symbol (this is consistent with the classic UI) and should not be controversial.

Then consider something more radical, later on, post 7.4

Note that in the special "current playlist" window, the track that is currently playing is specified to have an indicator of a musical note. Given that "touch to play" will also be on this window, what do I do on that screen? Musical notes for all items, and two musical notes for the currently playing item?
Comment 7 Weldon Matt 2009-05-04 14:58:41 UTC
If we MUST have an icon here, it should be a play icon.
Comment 8 Blackketter Dean 2009-05-04 15:25:18 UTC
I spoke to Matt and asked that we look at both. Noah: Please go ahead and create the small note and radio icons for the right side to review.

musical note icon added for touch-to-play tracks

requires SC r26451 and Fab4 r5638

I'm going to mark this as RESOLVED, but reopen if we want to rethink the visual treatment

Ben - is it possible to post some screen shots of the updated assets for documentation?
