Description Michael Herger 2009-04-13 23:37:59 UTC
Henrik Ekman who provided us with valuable feedback on the Finnish translation has a few more comments. Please discuss with translators during the next pass. Thanks!

---------------

Dear Sirs,

Thank you very much fixing the translation error that was the original
reason for sending this e-mail to you. You have fixed like I proposed ;-) in
SW 125 for Squeezebox Classic. Great!

I upgraded the SW and it works fine now.

SOME FINETUNING STILL REQUIRED IN THE FINNISH TEXTS

However, in case you would like to get more comments, there is one or two
translations that I would recommend to change.

By pressing the “SLEEP” button on the remote controller the unit display
shows:

Eng: “Sleeping in 15 minutes”

Fin: “Nukun myöhään 15 minuuttia”

“Nukun myöhään 15 minuuttia” actually in Finnish means like ”I will sleep
late of 15 minutes” giving an impression that someone will sleep too/quite
late e.g. 15 minutes. It does not actually give the impression of the
listener being awake and sleep timer shuts off the unit after 15 minutes.
The exact translation would be:

Fin: “Nukahdan 15 minuutin kuluttua”

Eng: “Going to sleep / power off in 15 minutes”

But the sentence above is slightly confusing as well, who is going to sleep
– the listener or the device, so I would recommend to talk about sleep timer
setting value.

MY RECOMMENDATION IS:

Because the meaning is the delayed power off of the unit like a sleep timer
setting value, I would recommend a sentence below:

Fin: “Uniajastin 15 minuuttia” that means exactly that the sleep timer
setting is 15 minutes.

Eng: “Sleep timer 15 minutes”

MY OTHER RECOMMENDATION:

When pressing the “SLEEP” button several times, the unit gives a text

Fin: “Lepotila peruutettiin” (that means like ”stand by mode is cancelled”)

Eng: “Sleep cancelled”

I would recommend to change it as below
Fin: “Uniajastin peruutettiin”

Eng: “Sleep timer cancelled”

So we would all the time talk about “sleep timer”, “sleep timer value” and
“sleep timer cancelled” in Finnish.
