centered textarea "help" text is to be removed. go back to old treatment of help_list window, which was to not have the textarea take all available space, but instead have it take up the space it needed and the menu can be just below it.

Noah, is that an accurate description?

Richard, does this change mean we can fold help_list back into text_list and remove a window style?

that sounds right. 

We should handle the case where the total length is longer than the height of the screen.

fixed, r5179. 

help_list still a viable window style to use, but it's no different than text_list now.
