Description Anoop Mehta 2009-04-03 12:56:54 UTC
When LAME.exe is not present in the MSwin32 folder of SqueezeCenter..the option to Transcode to MP3 is disabled.

Shouldn't there still be the option to use FAAD to trasncode to mp3 when available? What about Alac for Apple Lossless, or wmadec for Windows Media?

These all get greyed out when LAME is not installed.

Is this the expected behavior?

I can see how this can be a bit confusing.

My main question is why do I see FAAD/LAME to transcode to MP3. New screen shot attached.

This makes me think that without LAME the server could still use FAAD to transcode to MP3.

ANY conversion with a missing binary is greyed out (not just mp3 because of a missing LAME).

The last screenshot doesn't seem to show any problem as it implies that lame is found because it is enabled for EVERY case. The ability to find LAME is also shown in the bitrate limiting settings (the text will explain if lame is found or not). Changing settings on the file types page will show errors at the top, pointing out any missing binaries in the conversion command.

The convert.conf file doesn't have any option currently for faad to trancode directly to mp3. All of the conversion lines use faad THEN lame for mp3.

Thanks for the explanation KDF

I think I am still confused.

KDF if you do not mind..can you please explain why when Transcoding to MP3 it will show LAME/FAAD or LAME/ALAC?

If SC only needs LAME to trancode to MP3 why does it also show FAAD and ALAC?
