This is a really strange error.
Via the web UI navigate to a listen again programme in BBC iPlayer.
e.g.
Home > BBC iPlayer > BBC 7 > A Short History of Ireland > A Short History of Ireland, The Eagle Wing and the Black Oath/Presbyterian Anger, Catholic Resentment

Note how the url is an iPlayer type file
URL: iplayer://www.bbc.co.uk/mediaselector/3/auth/iplayer_streaming_http_mp4/b007hj98
See attached jpeg for information.

Now navigate to the same programme via Alien BBC plug-in.
Home > Alien BBC > Alternate Listen Again > BBC 7 > A Short History of Ireland > A Short History of Ireland, The Eagle Wing and the Black Oath/Presbyterian Anger, Catholic Resentment

On occasions the Alien BBC shows the same iPlayer programme as the BBC iPlayer plug-in.

See attached jpeg.

Note also happens in reverse direction. Go to Alien BBC - view programme, go to iPlayer view same programme & it will sometimes be in the .ram format used by Alien BBC player.

Triode: could this be related to bug 11509?

Probably because you looked at both within 5 minutes of each other?

In this case I think there's a danger the caching within the server returns the preparsed feed from one plugin to the other (the code under the hood is very similar - looks like I need to see if we can change it in some way)

Triode - yup less than 5 minutes is true.

Found this was because of the error in iPlayer (http 404) for listen again programmes and your advice to try Alien BBC stream instead.

So iPlayer does not connect, switch to Alien - whoops same url; so solution of switching to listen to stream on Alien sort of does not work great.

Still mystified by the iPlayer error - it just sort of feels "wrong" (lousy bug report I know & I appologise). I have not had the chance/patience to repeat enough to analyse/document. However I am sure that repeated occurrences of the 404 bug produced by iPlayer will stop any iPlayer stream from playing & quite often crash the 7.2 server software. Will try and produce a solid repeatable bug report.

If you could fix the caching issue would be greatly appreciated.

7.4 and latest iplayer should avoid this caching issue - marking as resolved
