Jive r4824: Progress bar "Now Playing"

Just updated jive to r4824, it exposes some display issues with the progress bar and the volume bar. I include some shots I took from the actual Controller with a camera (not too good quality but show what I mean).

Comment 4 Mikkel Herold 2009-03-22 03:19:37 UTC
I can confirm this. The problem arose after the upgrade to r4824
Comment 5 Moonbase 2009-03-22 06:25:01 UTC
There are actually some more areas where r4824 doesn’t display text fully:

In the "text popup" (show briefly) area, some texts are overlaid by the "status line" (showing battery status and time) and thus not fully readable, also some texts in this area are cut short, i.e.:

-- information browser: "No information feeds found. Please use the SqueezeCenter web interface to add information feeds under ..." (rest overlayed)

-- Music Library - Search for Songs: "Use the scroll wheel to change letters, then press the center button to select that letter. Press the center button ..." (rest overlayed)

-- and more.
Comment 6 Moonbase 2009-03-22 06:32:10 UTC
I suggest retargeting this to 7.3.3.

Reason: We have a relatively high-priced and emotion-loaded "consumer item" here, where "first impressions" ARE important. This bug doesn’t hamper functionality in any way, but makes for an unneccessarily bad product first impression by looking so ugly.

So I think the official 7.3.3 release should have this fixed.
Comment 7 Moonbase 2009-03-26 09:19:48 UTC
Problems apparently corrected with (unreleased) Jive 7.3 r4842. (Which I "plugged into" my SC 7.4-25680 as a "custom jive" to test this.)

Interesting - where did you download the 4842 build?
Comment 9 Moonbase 2009-03-27 06:24:25 UTC
As I said, it is an unreleased (internal) version that was given to me for qualifying another bug. My comment above is mainly meant as feedback to Logitech development/QA.

Thanks for understanding that I will not hand out internal information given to me in full trust. But rest assured that Logitech/Slimdevices are working on it ;-)
Comment 10 James Richardson 2009-04-01 08:27:24 UTC
Let me help clear up the confusion. A fix is going to be done for 7.3.3 as
well as 7.4

Thanks Moonbase for helping to qualify the (unpublished) 7.3.3 firmware. I
will work on getting both a 7.3 & 7.4 version of firmware published to the
nightly for everyone to play with.
Comment 11 Sue Chastain 2009-04-09 11:00:36 UTC
Is this supposed to be fixed? Because I am still seeing it with 7.4-25881 r5226 today.
Comment 12 Marc Auslander 2009-04-09 11:20:31 UTC
I'm seeing the time remaining to the right of the now playing progress display sometimes clipped on the right by a pel or two. Some numbers look clipped, others don't.

It only happens occasionally. My superstition is that it depends on the sizes of the the numbers involved, and on there being more than an hour remaining so the time remaining is of the form -1:XX:YY. But the form of the elapsed time also affects the appearance of the right truncation.

This is with 5226.

I also see the right hand audio symbol in the volume pop-up overlapping the edge of the pop-up.

All this is just "polish" - there are more serious bugs to chase, IMHO, but if its an easy fix of layout parameters...
Comment 13 Sue Chastain 2009-04-09 12:22:25 UTC
I wouldn't say it's "just polish." As Moonbase has said, anyone new to the Duet will be seeing this on first use. It looks shoddy and leaves a bad first impression of the product.

Reopening.
Comment 15 Moonbase 2009-04-16 15:51:15 UTC
Confirm bug is back with jive r5226.
Comment 16 Chris Owens 2009-04-20 09:43:04 UTC
QA to try to reproduce this on 7.3. Don't worry about 7.4 for now; we have plenty of time for that release.
Comment 17 Ben Klaas 2009-04-20 10:05:00 UTC
just as an FYI, 7.4 is going to include a major refactoring of the skin code. As such, I'd expect lots of minor issues with 7.4 layout that will need fixing.

However, 7.3 layout hasn't been changed at all so I'm surprised anything would be broken there. QA to reproduce in 7.3 and comment...
Comment 18 James Richardson 2009-04-21 11:06:11 UTC
Looks fine with 7.3.3 r5225
Comment 19 Ben Klaas 2009-04-21 11:07:44 UTC
This is a problem in 7.4, let's leave it open for that version.
Comment 20 James Richardson 2009-04-21 11:27:14 UTC
Verified, still an issue with 7.4 r2526
Comment 21 Moonbase 2009-05-21 10:15:27 UTC
Just as update: Still an issue using SC7.4-26702, Jive r5580.
Comment 22 James Richardson 2009-05-21 10:41:54 UTC
Tom: Is this one yours to address, or Ben's
Comment 23 Ben Klaas 2009-05-21 11:02:13 UTC
I'll take it.

Just an FYI, there have been some major under-the-hood changes to how we describe window elements in 7.4, and the controller UI is suffering as a result of it. We're going to be respinning the entire controller skin before release, which is still a ways off.

If 7.4 controller UI is too awful to deal with right now, I'd suggest backing up to 7.3. We're going to be a bit graphically challenged in 7.4 for a while.
Comment 24 Blackketter Dean 2009-07-22 09:02:04 UTC
Moving to the product SqueezePlay because this bug appears to apply to any player based on that application code. Feel free to move it back if it's specific to the original product.
Comment 25 Ben Klaas 2009-08-04 21:07:29 UTC
this is fixed in 7.4 as part of a full reskinning of the Controller UI. We haven't started pushing out 7.4 beta firmwares yet, but I'll post a screenshot here to show you.

Note that the progress bar widget it an unfinished work yet, but that has a separate bug to track it.
