I tried both a WPA and a non-encrypted network.  Neither worked for me.

Works for me with r4729. I tried with SqueezeTest.

Did you try a factory reset?

ok, it really didn't work last week... it seems to be working now... hmm.
also, is the advanced/network status display supposed to be working?
