Currently, when you complete set up the device checks to see if a firmware update is available.  During this time, you can actually use it and start navigating menus.  Then suddenly it pops up with an update request, which is jarring.

The device should not allow use of the menus while it's determining if it needs to update the firmware.  Put up a screen, "Checking for new firmware" with a spinny, or something similar.

This is plan already.  Reopen after the feature has been implemented if it's not right.
