Description Jeremy 2009-03-08 18:00:33 UTC
I recently downgraded my squeezecenter box to windows 2000 "win2k" with SP4 and when Installing 7.4 it reports and error that squeezecenter wont launch in the system tray... during the install and thus squeezecenter will not run. I cant find the log file (probably there is a windows log somewhere). I tried 7.3.2 and that version installs fine and runs. But since I was running 7.4 before I have lost some improvements in the duet controller by going back to 7.3.2... any help would be aprpeciated...

What exact build are you trying to use? If it's today's (march 8), then this has nothing to do with w2k, but is a bug in SqueezeTray. I'm currently working on it in the 7.4 branch, and it might have been built when my changes weren't complete yet. Do you see the same failure with the nightly 7.3.3 build?
Comment 2 Jeremy 2009-03-09 11:58:55 UTC
I didnt see any other build that the latest one (yesterdays not sure on the exact number) I'll try a few other versions tonight. I just need "a" 7.4 build that works no the latest one

The very latest (today's - rev. 25434 or later) should be working. Doesn't it?
Comment 4 Jeremy 2009-03-09 18:07:24 UTC
I found a build that I ahd downloaded at work and tried it on the windows 2000 machine its build SqueezeCenter-7.4-25049.exe and it installed fine other than I had to install media player 9 which had a dll file that SQC was requesting. Now its working but I'm getting small skips when streaming mp3 urls to the Duet controller that I wasnt having with XP not sure why though. (maybe a buffer setting would fix that?) The Duet controller headphone jack stopped working after about 15 min even after updating the firmware. So I fixed that using the "inserted = 1" temporary fix. It must just be a problem with your latest build which I guess you know about

SqueezeCenter-7.4-25401.exe was the build that wouldnt install

any help on buffering would be appreciated as this is the only problem right now

Still same problem with 7.4-25234 wont load to system tray... reinstalled 7.4-25049
the skipping must be with the controller only and is intermittent... could be too much load on my wireless router. (some else is using laptop wirelessly in my house)

I installed the latest 7.4 nightly build on a w2k system and can easily confirm the issue. It's due to change 25139 to fix bug 10866. The option added to work around a bug in Norman Antivirus obviously doesn't work on w2k. Disabling that option "fixed" the issue on my test system.

I've contacted ActiveState about this issue, as this imho is a bug in PDK. The dyndll option we're using is supposed to be working in any Windows bug the 9x series and earlier.

Several threads in the forums about this:

http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=61932

 - and I still don't have any news from ActiveState.

This is due to a bug in PDK 7.3/8.0:
http://bugs.activestate.com/show_bug.cgi?id=82610

We'll have to take a decision whether to break SC for W2k or Norman users.
Comment 9 Michael Herger 2009-04-02 09:57:58 UTC
I'm planning to revert the conflicting change early next week. You should see working 7.3.3 builds within a week.
Comment 10 Michael Herger 2009-04-07 07:02:39 UTC
change 25854 - I've removed the dyndll parameter from the Windows build.

We decided to support w2k while potentially breaking SC on systems running Norman Antivirus (bug 10866).

Jeremy: Can you please download and try SqueezeCenter 7.3.3 r26228 & 7.4 r26222 to verify they both work for you?

Please reopen the bug if those versions or later fail.
Comment 12 James Richardson 2009-06-17 09:37:13 UTC
This bug has been fixed in the 7.3.3 release version of SqueezeCenter!

If you haven't already. please download the new version from http://www.logitechsqueezebox.com/support/download-squeezecenter.html

If you are still experiencing this problem, feel free to reopen the bug with your new comments and we'll have another look.
