Add wallpaper mask to Tch Keyboard
Last modified: 2009-09-08 09:19:58 UTC
Created attachment 4883 [details] Artwork for keyboard wallpaper mask We need to control the background of the touch keyboard for cases where the user elects to have a light or very detailed wallpaper. Ben has already implemented a temp. fix, however, attached is formal artwork.
Created attachment 4884 [details] Reference Screen-keyboard no mask
The mask will become more important if we move to individual key buttons as seen in the current software build...
Created attachment 4885 [details] Reference Screen-keyboard w/ mask applied Correct mask size is 151x480 pixels (aligned on top of the toolbar).
i'm not sure I agree that we need the mask. given that this example background image is pretty close to worst case, I think it's acceptable AND doesn't have the effect dimming the whole screen when the user goes to type something. And, we should move to noah's design for the keyboard, not the one that Ben invented.
well, I did it before you could comment on it Dean. r4692 employs the keyboard mask. I think it looks fine, and the UI guys are pretty solidly opposed to not using one. I'm inclined to defer to their judgment. Also in r4692 is a backspace button in the right spot. Layout isn't perfect, but it's 100% functional. I have no intention of keeping the keyboard I invented, but there's still much to discuss on keyboards and what's needed. Let's do that next week in person.
Looking at the attached keyboard images: What's the unrecognizable key next to the space bar? The square arrangement of the keys is pretty unnatural for a keyboard. IMO, it's better to more closely create something visually recognizable. Is the '?' mark character found on the same screen with 1, 2, 3? If not, that's a poor choice for marking that particular key. I'd prefer a Caps Lock key immediately above the shift key... Have the 'Shift' key work by shifting only the next key press, and have the Caps Lock toggle between caps and lower case. Also, make the Shift key wider, as is common on many QWERTY keyboards.
We still need to discuss this.
The current artwork looks good to me.
