Description Mikkel Herold 2009-03-03 01:39:55 UTC
The scroll wheel is not acting properly when browsing long lists such as the Artists list

When I access the list and start scrolling fast to move quickly down the list, it just cycles between the first 4 or 5 items. If I continue scrolling fast it cycles the items five or six times, and only then does it move down the list.

If I scroll a little slower, it moves nicely down the list without cycling first - and if I scroll fast after having scrolled slowly, it works fine, too!

So the problem only exists when I enter a list and start scrolling fast right away - otherwise not.

To make it more mysterious, this behaviour only occurs when I select my receiver as the playback device. If I switch to the Controller (i.e. the headphone jack or the internal speaker), scrolling works fine!

I am running firmware 7.4 r4154, and it used to work - I don't remember when the behaviour changed, but I think it was after the latest firmware upgrade.

I'm having the same issue. Let me/us know if you need some debugging turned out to track this down.

It's been happening to me since before 7.3.2, I'm currently running a nightly 7.3.3 and it is stilling happening. It's been at least 2 or 3 firmware updates to the remote now since it started.

Seems to be solved with the r4824 firmware.

I spoke too soon - the problem is still there with the new update, although with a slight twist: I can now scroll fast through any list but only if I start scrolling from the top of the list.

If I return to a list that I have been scrolling in, it will start where I left off last time - and then the bug is back.

No official response on this one? It's driving me nuts. Each time I a get a new update to the controller I get all excited and then crap it's still there.

Some more details:

For me it doesn't happen the first time you go into the artist list, but after you've entered an artist and played an album or even come right back out to the artist list. You then get looping over a few artists until you slow right down or stop and then it gradually gets it self straightened out and starts scrolling normally.

PS) Last firmware update from a day or two ago didn't solve it.

Now fixed, in 7.3 (r5225) and 7.4(r5226)

Details:
While menu chunks were being loaded in the background, the selected index was being set back to the menuAnchor on each chunk load, even if the user had already started moving away from the item. After the chunks finished loaded (after a few seconds on a big list), everything worked as normal. Fix is to only set the selected anchor index once.

assigning to QA until new 7.4 nightly is pushed out to beta users
Comment 7 Ben Klaas 2009-04-07 12:08:03 UTC
...and actually reopening until that happens
Comment 8 James Richardson 2009-04-07 12:27:03 UTC
Marking as 7.3.3 Fixed, QA will validate with the listed version or greater during the validation phase of 7.3.3
Comment 9 Jeff Flowerday 2009-04-07 12:38:50 UTC
Thank you guys! It's appreciated!

I'm looking forward trying the fix out.

Does this mean that it will only be available to beta testers for now? (Sorry, I don't know how the system works).
Comment 11 Ben Klaas 2009-04-07 14:00:11 UTC
Typically yes, but QA thinks this should go to 7.3.3 users as well as 7.4. Both have been qualified and will be pushed out within the day.

I'm already running a beta 7.3.3 from late last week.

Do you want me to install the latest nightly?
Comment 14 Ben Klaas 2009-04-07 15:41:55 UTC
it hasn't been published just yet, will be pushed out for 7.3.3 users within the next 1/2 day
Comment 15 Jeff Flowerday 2009-04-07 20:55:17 UTC
Just restarted my service and got the update on the controller.

Excellent work! The controller is sooooo much smoother now. I'm a happy happy camper.

Thanks!
