Bugzilla – Bug 11209
iTunes issue with accented Song Titles and Artist names
Last modified: 2009-06-02 09:33:11 UTC
There is an issue with SqueezeCenter being able to see Artist names and Song Titles with accents. I have not verified exactly what accents cause this issue or I cannot say that all accents cause this issue, but some definitely do. The specific accent that was used is an ague, but the customer has seen this issue with different accents as well. SqueezeCenter will not see a file if there are characters with accents in the Song Title field and/or the Artist name field. This customer is experiencing the issue with iTunes.
Please get a scanner.log with plugin.itunes=debug, scan=debug, scan.scanner=debug etc. Are you sure this is 7.3.2? See also bug 7966
I did a scan and debug..sent it to Julius D. Nothing found.
Julius: please attach the scanner log to this bug, reassign to QA once you have done that
Created attachment 4989 [details] Scanner Log for Rad per Jame's request
Scanner log attached, assigning back to QA.
Rad: can you download and try the latest beta version of 7.3.3 to see if the same issue happens? I was unable to duplicate the issue here. http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/?ver=7.3 Download from that website, then report back in the bug if this version helps or not.
Since there's now a planned 7.3.3 release, bugs which won't make the cut-off are being moved to the next target out. If you feel that this bug needs to be addressed more (or less) urgently than the 7.4 release, please cc chris@slimdevices.com and leave a comment in the bug to that effect so we can review it. Thanks.
For some reason Bugzilla did not change the target when I did this yesterday. Or maybe it was me. In either case, I'm trying it again.
I believe this issue has been addressed in 7.3.3, so I am marking this bug as fixed. Please test that version to verify, if you still see the issue feel free to reopen the bug.
Customer wrote me regarding the bug and issue and I had him try the latest nightly. Here is his latest response: Sorry to say I downloaded the very latest and then entered my test again....the one that has all the saint-saens with the umlaut....no go. the other pieces on the disc come through fine, but those will not. Make sure we are talking about the same line in iTunes....it's the the "Name" line ,where each individual track is named. I had trouble with the artist line, too....why don't you just make it that everything in any language will come through? Rad Reopening bug, please let me know if you require further information from me or the customer.
Could we please have a _full_ log file? The one attached only has a few lines about artwork - irrelevant. Plus: what's the exact configuration? What iTunes version, operating system, any transfer involved (NAS, Windows <-> OSX or similar)?
Rad: can you also attach a sample track to this bug, that exhibits the behavior you are experiencing.
Everything gets to iTunes OK..the problem is with getting it from there to Squeeze....I find that anytime there is a an accent in the track title line (not the album title) or often in the artist line, that the track or set of tracks will not be accepted by Squeeze...so just take any title and add a few accents and you should duplicate it....for me to send one track is difficult and it isn't just one album I am having problems with but ALL that meet the criteria stated above. I used Vista on an HP Pavilion Computer. It might be a setting, that could be a consideration, too...and not a bug. At least let us know if this is locally-ripped content, or purchased content. If it's purchased content, which song is it? Thanks for any info!
OK, here's an album....Columbia Essential Classics 62 638 which contains Britten's Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra, Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf, and Saint-Saens-Carnival of Animals. the Britten and Prokofiev stream to Squeeze, no problem, the Saint-Saens will not because each individual song title has the composer's name with the umlaut over the second a (i can't do it here on this program). that's true of any title...if there are accents on the individual song title line (NOT the album line, which seems to be OK with it) then Squeeze doesn't like it. Rad: what version of Windows XP are you running? Home / Pro / HomeServer / Media Center What Service Pack level have you installed? SP1 / SP2 I have tried the album listed in comment #15 but was unable to replicate the issue as described. ====================== Please try SC 7.3.3 (http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/?ver=7.3) After you install 7.3.3, stop the server then delete your log files "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SqueezeCenter\Logs" Start the Server Set the following LOG's to Debug Settings > Advanced > Logging; > Logging Set > Music Scanner <apply> Do a Clear and Rescan Settings > Rescan Music Library > Clear Lib and Rescan Everything Then attach the new Server & Scanner log files to this bug

Hi, I'm experiencing the same bug. I'm running SS 7.3.3. Here's an example how to recreate it: 1. Put a file on one of your folders name "05 Le Soleil Est Près de Moi.mp3" (note 'pres' has a special character..). 2. Add to iTunes. 3. Sync SS to load this file. 4. In SS you'll see this file has a 'short path' format, in our case: "D:\Music\Albums\CHILLO~1\Air\PREMIE~1\05LESO~1.MP3" - and not "D:\Music\Albums\Chillout & Ambient\Air\Premiers Symptomes\..." as the other tracks have. 5. Since this is a different path from the rest of the 'normal tracks' - SS will see it as a SEPARATE album. 6. This causes a mess in the SS library... :-( I hope this clarifies that bug and i'd love to see it fixed as i have many of such track file :-) Many thanks, niri
I am happy someone else experiences it. To me it is as if Squeeze "edits" the material rather than just passing it through. Why can't it to that. It doesn't "correct" my typing errors! LOL! With me it's if there are foreign characters in the "Name (individual track name), Artist, or Composer lines of iTunes. If it's in the album title, it seems permissible. I have to be careful to go back and take all accents out for the titles to appear on SC. Rad, indeed, this SC behavior is very annoying. I'm really waiting to the SlimDevices guys (that look very responsive) to take care of it and fix this issue.. niri

I just had this recently in trying to create files of the philips recording of GLuck's Orphee. Only about four tracks were recognized by Squeeze, though all were fine in iTunes. I had to go back and remove all accents and the Frech "oe" that merges those two letters as one character as well as all the quotations. Finally got all the tracks to carry over but it was a chore.
